This is the stretch of games from 4/21 through 5/1. Following the Tulane game on 5/1, he was batting .503 (80 for 159). That's crazy! He finished the season at .431 (100 for 232).

4/21/12 LSU-1 Kentucky-8 (following 4/22 game, LSU's Raph Rhymes is batting .500, 70-140, after going 4-4)

4/25/12 LSU-4 Southeastern La-3 (Raph Rhymes is now batting .497, 71-143 following a 1 for 3 game)

4/27/12 LSU-6 Georgia-5 (Raph Rhymes is now batting .503, 74-147 following a 3 for 4 game)

4/28/12 LSU-8 Georgia-4 (Raph Rhymes is now batting .503, 76-151, following a 2 for 4 game)

4/29/12 LSU-3 Georgia-5 (Raph Rhymes is now batting .500, 78-156, following a 2 for 5 game)

5/1/12 LSU-9 Tulane-5 (Raph Rhymes is now batting .503, 80-159, following a 2 for 3 game)

That's a name I haven't seen in awhile. He was an excellent contact hitter.

Rhymes BaBIP was absurd in 2012. Just about every ground ball he hit found a hole

His bat stayed in the strike zone so long the next hitter had to move it before getting in the box.

In the majors back in the day, Rhymes could have legally bowled over the catcher, who was blocking the plate. In the 1970 All Star Game, Pete Rose knocked over Ray Fosse scoring at home.

Raph o’clock was a good meme until it was repurposed to something more vulgar and banned

He did more that just knock him over, Rose damn never ruined Fosse's career.

Fosse later revealed that he had a fractured and separated left shoulder from the collision and that his body ached for the rest of his career.

He didn't have near as productive a season in 2013 as in 2012, but he was my favorite player to watch -- thanks to plays like the somersault home run. The guy was a BALLER

I remember a mid-week home game where Raph hit a line drive to straight away center field.

The center fielder sprinted towards second base and tried to make a diving catch but the ball got past him and rolled all the way to the center field fence under the batter's eye.

Raph sprinted for third but as he approached third base the third base coach windmilled him home.

The catcher caught the ball in front of the plate and dove low to tag Raph but Raph channeled Lolo Jones and he hurtled the catcher and landed on the plate safe for an inside the park home run.

I thought Rhymes was going to puke before he got to the dugout but he made it with his lunch intact...

Raph was a frickin machine at the plate.
When someone bitches about our guys taking a 3-0 pitch I always say "there's only 3 lsu players in the last 20 yrs who who should swing on a 3-0."
Crews Bregman and Princess.
