Summary:
It's more indicative of the entire market being saturated. While there's always new people entering the market, there's a ton of used devices out there.
It's getting hard to justify dropping a grand on a phone when an "old" premium phone that's a couple years old is nearly as good as the current top tier phones and is way better value than any "cheap" new phones.

Didn't watch, but I kept my iphone 3 up until iphone 7, and kept that up until iphone 13. And that was only because Apple decided to stop updating the IOS, there was nothing wrong with the phone/hardware.

There is very little difference between the S23 Ultra and the S25 Ultra. Maybe some AI differences but how many people use them?

This is what I've been doing to a long while. I haven't purchased a new phone in many many years

Idk, my Moto G Stylus (2024) has been one of the best phones I've owned, and it goes on sale for $100 pretty often.
But I'm not a cell phone "power user". I just use my phone to shite post on TD and Discord all day

This is where I'm at. I have the s23 ultra, and I see no reason to upgrade anytime soon. Battery life is still pretty good, and the phone does everything I need. The S25 is hardly an upgrade. They also dropped the bluetooth ability of the s-pen, which is actually a pretty handy feature. If Samsung completely drops the s-pen from future ultras, I'll switch back to a Pixel. The s-pen is the only thing keeping me with Samsung.

i upgraded my oneplus by like 3 versions and i honestly can't tell any difference; maybe the photos and videos are sharper..
same with iphones; my wife was on an iPhone X and i surprised her with a 15 and neither she nor i can really tell much difference..except the obnoxious number of camera lens on the back of the case.
the huge innovations leaps and bounds when smart phones first hit have dramatically died down..honestly the only thing that i've actually noticed in the last couple of years (other than camera shite) is an improvement on the support for 5G and ultra-fast 5G and of course, apple finally ditching that lightning bullshite so everything now uses USB C in our house.

The only reason to drop top dollar on a phone is if you have the know how and capability to do something like GrapheneOS. Get yourself a nice Pixel and run that on it for a more secure device.
