Those dorms will hopefully be around for a long time. It isn't just to house 1200 students this year.

Ironically peak enrollment at LSU was 80s and 90s with about 30,000+.

I think LSU currently runs around 22-23K.

You are pretty far off. LSU’s enrollment is closer to 40k as of spring 2025, likely holding or slightly gaining for fall. Bigger, flagship state schools like LSU have seen strong gains the last decade where a lot of private colleges have collapsed.

Honestly 30k+ on the Baton Rouge campus is a tight fit, and they are far beyond that. That’s why they’ve been building dorms and classrooms like crazy. And it’s why traffic has been difficult in the area.

LINK.

Enrollment hasn’t been 23k in my lifetime, and I’m not exactly young.

Supposedly we have entering “enrollment cliff”. Enrollments are expected to decline as fall out from 2008 Great Recession and declining births

They keep saying this, and it’s definitely true with the smaller private schools. It hasn’t materialized with the bigger state schools in the south and Midwest…at least not yet. A lot of students from the northeast and west coast have flocked to the “flyover” state schools like LSU in the last 5-7 years.

Hopefully it levels off soon. Texas A&M has to be pushing 75k by now. I just can’t see the LSU campus in Baton Rouge being able to handle 45-50k without some expensive reformatting.

LSU, Ole Miss and Alabama have exploded with record enrollment, many from out of state

It hasn’t materialized

Almost like 2008 was 17 years ago but we shall see. Am I missing something? I assumed it would take 18 years for the impacts to be felt. Migrants and North Liberals will probably ruin Southern college culture anyway

The growth has been astounding. I don’t see how they can keep up with it if it continues for much longer. Tuition is going to likely climb.

Last fall was a mess. Not sure how the housing folks fcked up, but they were short by a lot for freshmen housing needs. They ended up “paying” locals who would agree to live at home, putting some kids in hotels for a short while, and quickly renovating some spaces to add more rooms.

Also I was kind of surprised that there is almost no housing on campus for those that are moving into their sophomore year.

It’s a huge number. But in fairness it’s a big arse pair of buildings.

They are building it because they know they can fill it and generate a lot of revenue.

Glad they leveled Kirby Smith when they did. If it were still standing now they’d probably try to renovate that hideous building. They have a housing crisis right now.

Fun fact: LSU had 57,000 applicants for the 2025 freshman class and accepted 7500. Pretty cool.

How people say shite this stupid never ceases to amaze me. You can look this up in literally 15 seconds. You have a computer in the palm of your hands at all times.

That's crazy $$ for 1,200 beds.
