It is hard to separate the two, but the time is likely here where we need to separate the lunacy of the trade, forget about it for now, and enjoy the players.

I agree. It’s just not going to happen though, unfortunately. Every bad game, it will be brought up. It will be Marcus Davenport all over again. Not talking the player, but the way the 2 were never able to be separated in most conversations.

Supposedly we had Queen at #5 or 6 on our board.. so if next year's pick is 5 or 6 then I imagine Joe views that as a wash

Yea say we get #8 next year and he will probably figure #8 + #23 = #6 in a normal trade up. It’s not too bad if it works out that way. If we get picks 1-3 then it’s not great.

People don’t want to accept this logic, but it’s fairly sound. If you think you are basically getting two top 5 players in one draft, it’s not crazy to just go ahead and do it.
Another aspect of this is it takes all incentive for tanking away. See where you are at now and adjust accordingly

A lot of ex players don't care about the draft picks involved. They are more interest in the team and player.

Right, he is specifically addressing the draft and not any deals it took to get there. I think everyone understands that, but it won’t stop anyone from devolving the conversation into commentary on team management.

I mean if the player balls out does the other pick matter? Isnt the other pick worth giving up? What if that next year pick is a bust?
