I'm very certain this will be downvoted and I do understand all of the skepticism that is coming his way after last night.

BUT

Listening to his presser last night impressed me. There is an actual message and communication being delivered from the front office. Something that I have not heard or believed for years with Griffin. Dumars is taking swings to mix things up and get guys who are polarizing and attacking players as he described. Will it work? Who knows and we are trained to believe it won't with how much we have been in the mud for years as fans.

We also were upset with the Dumars hire and rightfully so, it was chalk and there was no hiring process done by Gayle from what it seemed. However, somehow ignoring all of the noise, when I actually just sit and listen to JD, I come away impressed every time and I like him. I know people inside the organization (sales and ticket related) who say it is night and day better in there with the new leadership around. Take it for you will, but I am going to try and be positive about everything and let it play out.

As for the trade, yes that is a crazy and almost neglegent thing to do. But we will not know until we see what Queen becomes. Additionally, if things blow up again this year, one of Zion/Herb/Trey will most certainly be traded. That trade will probably net a 1st back for 2026 you would think. Not talking myself into the trade, but also looking at the bigger picture for what this FO may be doing.

Take over. Let's hope to new luck and positive vibes again this season.

I would much rather prefer to take chances and continue to do so if it doesn't workout > do what we've done the last 5 years and rely on lesser talent or make moves in a safety box.

I'm ok with the moves because if they don't work then I'm confident we will move on fast. At some point we hit, that's how you get better and not through making minimal changes expecting the same result.

We picked Jaxson Hayes #8, Hawk #13, and traded Dyson at #7. We are champions of wasting draft talent already so IDK why people are freaking out about next years pick If Fears/ Queen are actually legit. If this is the year we have both top picks hit then its a complete success. I'll be optimistic until I don't have a reason to.

I'll say this:

Griffin was absolutely paralyzed with fear to take big shots. When forced to, like AD and Jrue, he took the shots and got good deals.

He then squandered it all because wasn't willing to swing for the fences when not cornered. He would constantly say about how much they wanted this guy or that guy or wanted to move up but didn't.

Dumars, for better or worse, is not scared at all. He is being aggressive.

I think this is an underrated aspect of the trade. If we suck, we're trading guys and will have a first round pick for 2026. Does this forgive them for not making the pick top-4 protected? No way. But I get the thought process.

There is value in getting a guy they love now, as opposed to hoping there is a guy they love in 2026.

Honestly, I think we're all pissed off that we don't even get to fantasize about the 2026 lottery and draft. Joe took that away from us!!!!

Weaver likes to pick players from D.C./Baltimore/Maryland. From the Athletic this morning:

quote:

These moves follow essentially the same blueprint laid out by current Pelicans general manager and former Detroit Pistons general manager Troy Weaver when he got the Pistons job in 2020. Sources across the league believe that Weaver is heavily influencing the decisions in New Orleans, even though Joe Dumars is the president of basketball operations. Weaver’s fingerprints are all over these moves. He drafted Bey back in 2020. He was with the Wizards last year as a senior advisor. He is from the Washington D.C./Baltimore area and often favors players from that community. Queen is from Baltimore.

There are other parallels to Weaver’s decision-making when he was in Detroit. He selected a young point guard in Killian Hayes at No. 7, then traded a future first-round pick to move up and get a big man in Isaiah Stewart. After hampering the Pistons’ flexibility over the last five years, that pick finally transferred this season. He also traded for a volume scorer in Jerami Grant (another player from the Maryland area) and signed him to a three-year deal.

Things worked out so well that Detroit won 74 of the 318 games in which Weaver was in charge, a run that also included an NBA record 28-game losing streak in his fourth and final season. And Dumars shouldn’t be let off the hook for his time in Detroit; after building an NBA champion, he was never able to recapture success. In his final five seasons with the Pistons, Dumars went 140-253 for a 35.6 winning percentage.

The decision-making here is baffling, especially in a Western Conference that features more depth than arguably any iteration in NBA history. The Pelicans have the worst defensive talent of any team in the NBA right now and would be a favorite to finish last in defensive rating in 2025-26, a year after they just finished 29th in defensive rating.

I didn’t know that an NBA front office could still surprise me with such brazen incompetence. I thought we were at the point when organizations largely hired sharp, analytically-minded people who had a sense of strategy and a realistic understanding of where their team sat in the league pecking order. These moves made me feel alive as someone who evaluates basketball for a living, so in that respect, I’m grateful that we have a total wild card back in the mix.

Obviously, though, I think it’s unlikely that this ends well.

There's a lot of truth to this.

It has nothing to do with being easy to please. I know this franchise is probably the most disorganized and worst run in all of sports and I have been a fan my whole life. shite is draining lol.

But I also can tell that there is more direction and communication with Dumars that we have had the last few years. He is not someone who is scared of taking chances and will make moves. I am also encouraged by his response to the Dejounte interview and his communication with him and the staff since.

It's a waste of time to beat a dead horse with all the negativity this organization has surrounding it.

He’s way better than Griffin that’s for sure. If he would fire Willie Green, everyone would love him.

Mike Lynn thought the same when he gave up the farm for a declining Herschel Walker which Jimmy Johnson turned into a dynasty.

As for Dumars’ interview I’m much more concerned with what they do vs a nice sound bite.

I was glad he didn't tip toe around the Dejounte Murray question and gave a straight forward answer. Was happy to hear DJ wanted the rookies numbers

Hollinger this morning, also in The Athletic:

quote:

After their postseason non-search for a new GM led them to Joe Dumars, and only Joe Dumars, the stories leaking out of New Orleans already are generating smirks around the league. They have a coach none of the players like, that they somehow can’t fire, a star player nobody wants around but they can’t get rid of, and, as the last 48 hours showed, a new front office throwing spaghetti at the wall.
