Thought LSU played almost flawless against CC except for this

I don't even hold Eyanson much responsible for the HRs. I think we all know those are barely warning track outs except for the gale blowing from right to left. Defense was great. The problem I did have (my brother noticed the same thing) was the lack of hustle a couple of times.

1) Milam hit that pop-up near the LF line which I figured was going to drop due to the wind blowing it away from the infield. He TROTS down to first base and if running would have made 2nd easily as the announcers said.

2) Jake Brown was on first and Jared Jones hit a moon shot pop-up in short center with 2 outs. Brown jogged from 1st to 2nd and then on the way to 3rd picked up the pace. Once again, not hard to predict a dropped Jones hit pop-up (see Arkansas where it happened twice). Brown should have scored on that play but lack of hustle only allowed him 3rd base.

I know it was a scorcher and running takes energy but this was the CWS...they weren't playing Little Sisters of the Poor up 12-0.

Yea, I def clocked that Jake Brown moment. He totally would have scored. It even would have been worth sending him if it was gonna be a play at the plate.

I honestly dont see why we find things to scrutinize after winning a Natty. However while watching the game I told myself this exact same thing after each one of the at bats you mentioned. But now what does it matter.. We brought home the hardware

I noticed those lack of hustle plays as well. Glad they didn't cost us anything.

Lack of base running hustles could have cost them in a close game. No excuses and don’t say it doesn’t matter because they won anyway.

We need to tighten up before SEC play starts.

It was surprising to see especially considering we knew the wind was going to be a factor for a couple of days prior to the weekend and there is no way the coaches didn’t remind the team about handling the popups on both the offensive and defensive side of things.

The surprising thing is it was Milam twice, look back at the Arkansas game when he could have been doubled up if Aloy doesn’t panic and go to third to get a runner that he doesn’t need to get

There is always room for improvement and "It's baseball" something like that leaves the door open for an Arky type meltdown.

I think it also makes you think of good LSU football teams that should have won so many games verses Alabama etc. but came up short because of the lack of killer instinct. We want to annihilate them, not just win.

Myself and a few others have a hunch that Milam may have been hurt. That was extremely uncharacteristic of him. He usually hustled around the basepaths more than anyone not named Curiel.
The problem with criticisms like this are that no one knows what’s going on behind the scenes. Many people criticized some of Dickinsons at bats not knowing he was hurt. It’s really time for lsu fans to just sit back and trust that Jay is gonna do the right thing time after time and that includes coaching up players to hustle or not. If you think he’s not paying attention to that and addressing it when it’s appropriate then I don’t know what to tell you.

Hey, Shadeur Sanders has joined the forum. Slow down behind the wheel, Shadeur Obviously I'm just kidding you. The reason I mentioned SS is that he was pissed off apparently teams during interviews brought up the negative plays he made and asked him what he thinks he did wrong. It is 100% legit to TRY to improve. And if you asked me who HUSTLED more during the game, clearly it was CC. Remember the guy running so desperately he fell over 1st base in the 9th. I think what you did wrong should be brought up even as you celebrate the win. The last thing you want to do is to instill a bad habit to hang around for next season.

The entire stadium was in a malaise from the 5th inning onward due to the weather. I imagine that feeling transferred to the field as well. I think everyone was just trying to self-preserve as much as possible to make it to the end of the game. It was brutal.

Sounds like you were there and I mentioned "scorching" myself. Quick question...did you ever see anyone with any type of medical issue? Glad you made it OK!

The base running was less than wonderful. Milam earned a serious reprimand for that display of laziness.

Yes it was totally out of character, which is why it was so surprising, was wondering if he may have had a minor injury

I’m not convinced Brown would have scored on that play. I agree that he jogged at the beginning, and I have a feeling Jordan would have sent him if he had been running full steam the whole way. But I think there would have been a play at the plate.

It’s no excuse for the lack of hustle. I just question whether that’s a guaranteed run like people seem to think.

Yes, but I would add Milam's "almost" HR in game 1. He watched it going to first and only got a double, should have ended up on third if he ran out the batters box.
