Has college baseball seen more top high school players enroll since NIL?

For those that follow college baseball. Have we seen an NIL effect with top prospects choosing the college route now, since they can get paid?

Off the top of my head yes. I think it’s also shown statistically to be a faster path to the minors.
And with NIL you can make more I believe than the putrid minor league salaries you get while scraping by to the show.
ETA: also major college teams charter flights. Where I’m pretty sure through AA you’re on the bus in the minors. At college you’re a celebrity. In the minors you’re nobody. And college gives you the opportunity to get a degree if you’re smart with the resources they give you. Way better than being a wasted out minor leaguer with no cash on the wrong side of 30.

Of course. It’s also why we see guys like Sam Hartman, Riley Leonard, and Will Howard stayed in college for football

I think you were starting to see more kids go the college route before NIL. People saw guys like Bregman, Pete Alanso, Scherzer, Gerrit Cole, etc. have success in college and MLB gave another option rather than going straight to the minors.

It was moving that way well before NIL
2020 for example 24 of the first round draft picks were college players
Unless you are MLB royalty like the Holliday clan going to college makes way more sense these days for the top guys honestly

That's because high school kids weren't really scouted that spring but there were enough college games to make decisions.
In general, the draft has moved toward college guys for a number of reasons, but 2020 is not a great year to use as an example of anything.

Using the COVID year is convenient
2021: 13 college players
2022: 16 college players
2023: 17 college players
2024: back to 20 college players when NIL really started getting big
College has shown to be great for the development of players as a big share of American born big leaguers played in college, and the road to the big leagues has gotten shorter. But to act like NIL isn’t sending more kids to the college game is disingenuous, which is par for the course for you

2019 had 25 of the first round picks as college players
20 in 2018…
Do I need to go on little mingo? Cute of you thinking 2020 was an outlier
Sorry, but the move to players going to college started well before Nil. Has it enticed a few more? I’m sure it has. But it wasn’t the catalyst

why go toil in the minors when you can develop and earn a little money while on campus
you come out of a college program more mature and ready for the grind that professional baseball has become when you are competing with the best players from around the world who have been in baseball academies since they were just out of diapers

Yes, another trend that has been happening for a while is MLB teams simply not willing to draft HS RHPs or high school pitchers in general, as its too risky

It will definitely make more go to college now, whether it started before or not. To deny that is just silly.

2019 MLB draft had 41 picks in Round 1, Compensatory Round, and Competitive Balance Round B. 28 of those picks were from college (68.3%).
If just the “first round” and removing the comp picks, it’s 22 of 32 (68.8%).
So no matter how you want to look at Round 1, more than 2/3 of all picks were from college the year before Covid and before NIL existed.

He is a clown
He saw some other poster incorrectly assert 2020 was different due to covid so he ran with it

I mean if you were a HS stud baseball player what would you choose.
A huge signing bonus but have to play in some A team in nowheresville or make decent NIL $ and play baseball for D1 school like LSU, Texas, UNC, etc.

Of course. It’s also why we see guys like Sam Hartman, Riley Leonard, and Will Howard stayed in college for football

I know, he was trying to say 27 of 32 were college players. You must not be familiar with NIL broker extraordinaire Pride’s work

That’s exactly why they stayed
There was no incentive to stay before NIL, get to the league as early as possible and try to get to that second contract. This isn’t debatable stuff

I simply stated the number of first round draft pick, same as I did for 2020. 2019 was more than 2020
So was 2017
You incorrectly assumed 2020 was an outlier due to Covid
