Except it's not.
Chanticleers is pronounced like Shanty
Now the French version is Chanteclers....but that lacks the long Ee sound and Is spelled differently.

Choir director here, studied at LSU for my Masters (we have a DAMN GREAT choir tradition too, look it up)...anyways, one of the best choirs in the world is Chanticleer, based out of San Francisco. While I respect the CC coaches opinion...they call themselves (Shant)iccleer rhymes with shanty...not (shawn)ticleer....so that is what I call Coastal here in SC. (Also, most of the state calls them the (Shant)icleers....and we all hate them here too...Bunch of coke heads
Side note, I also attended College of Charleston, which was the last team to beat them before the Tigers! I'm loving it!

Correct. I can't tell you how many times I had to listen to Geoffrey Chaucer's stories on audiobook on long rides to keep our kids occupied. One I heard a lot was the story of Chanticleer - a proud rooster done in by his own hubris, btw.
