Lost my best girl today

Little over 15 yrs ago I walked into a PetCo with my 7 yr old son to buy all the things we needed for the AKC registered lab I planned to buy. However, the local animal shelter had an adoption day going on and I fell in love with a little female “lab-mix” who was only a couple months old.
She became my best friend….but the past year got rough. Hips gave out, lost hearing, daily pain became obvious and started getting confused.
Today I had to make the call. Vet came to the house and handled everything but I have not handled it well. God Bless my wife for being the unflappable in this situation.
Did I mention I have not handled it well? Started the vodka around noon.
Pour one out for the world’s bestest girl tonight guys.

Sorry for your loss.
15 years is a good run. Were we all so lucky.

Sorry for your loss. Until you get “that” dog it’s hard to comprehend the connection. My golden boy is 7 and has started to get some white around his eyes.
There’s nothing in this world quite like a good dog. She was lucky to have you!

Just remember, she served her time and purpose to you, and she knows you served your time and purpose to her.

Sorry for your loss.
I dread the day already with our lab. I wish he could live as long as we do.

I have had a few of dogs, but my favorite will turn 13 in a couple months. I’m dreading the moment when he won’t be sitting next to me watching the Tigers.

So very sorry pets are just such a wonderful addition in our lives
Animals in general are a blessing, will never understand those who are ok with harming animals for pleasure or sport

Sitting here with my 12 year old labs head on my lap and these threads are hitting harder and harder..

Mine is only 4 and I already dread this day so much

You showed her the greatest act of love, which is so painful for us. 15 years! Wow! You did something right, and thank you for adopting. Take your time to grieve, acknowledge the pain. And it isn’t linear. You’ll be feeling ok for a few days, then it may hit again. It’s ok. It means you loved. I believe we see them again one day. God created animals and they are better than most people. I’ll give my dogs an extra cookie tonight in the honor of your girl.

Be comforted knowing you gave her a great life.

I understand loving a pet. I have dogs. But my love for my kids is so infinitely more intense that losing a dog won’t hurt nearly as bad.

Still mourning having to make the same call in March.
My routine is still a mess and still heavy hearted. That said, I know I’m sad because of how badass she was.
Thoughts are with ya brotha

I couldn't handle it when we put our Golden down four years ago. It was not a good showing for a pet owner. We have a lovely four year old Golden again and come hell or high water and even more, I will be there when she takes her last breath. She'd be there for me.
