Apologize in advance if this is the wrong board, but with the CWS finals starting today, I figured I'd share. NB4 CSB
While at work last night, I was listening to an interview with Jay Johnson and he mentioned Point Loma Nazarene University. I knew he coached at San Diego, but didn't know he coached and also played here for Point Loma. So, after hearing that, I got a wild hair up my butt and decided I'm going to stop by and see if I can get a look at the field.
Turns out, they had a bunch of older guys warming up to play a game today. So, not only did I get to see the field, I got invited on it to take pictures by one of the players there who saw me looking around and taking pictures. Was a very nice guy and really appreciate him asking me and allowing me to do that - so shout out to Mr. Mike. It's not Omaha, but since I can't make it there, I figured this is a neat little consolation prize. It's a very nice stadium, especially for a division 2 school, and the location is really nice as it sits right off the beach...
If you hit a HR, here are some of the potential landing spots...
Also, another shout out to PLNU for giving our baw his first shot at being a head coach. I bet it's been an awesome journey for Jay starting from here and ending up at the pinnacle of college baseball in Baton Rouge. Time to bring home #8 baws and bawettes. LFG!

Good looking field. You can tell in his interviews Jay remembers humble beginnings and it drives him for perfection. Top notch coach.

It's really a beautiful setup they have there. Unfortunately, it was still cloudy with the "June gloom" so I couldn't really see it in all it's glory. Of course, just as I was leaving the sun started to come out.

Wow. He looks pretty young. He looked more like a player than the head coach

I think that is part of it, but I also think Jay is so truly appreciative of the opportunity to do what he loves he doesn't take it for granted for a second.
I remember hearing Dan McCarney speak one time, he talked about being a D1 coach and (at the time) there were only 107 D1 football schools. He mentioned how small of a group that meant it was to be in.

Land has been connected to the university since enrolling as a freshman at Pasadena College in 1953.
A year and a half later he married his sweetheart, Barbara, a fellow student. Trying to make ends meet, Land left school and went to work.
In 1957, he joined the Marines. After a two-year stint in the Corps, he returned to Pasadena College. This time he stayed for good.
Land was an outstanding baseball player and earned two team MVP awards at Pasadena. He played at Pasadena for three seasons and served as the head coach during his final year as a player.
This began his career in athletics. Land earned his Master's degree from USC in 1962 and became a full-time member of the Pasadena athletic staff. Over the next few years he coached baseball, freshman basketball and cross country. He also served as the school's sports information director and taught in the kinesiology department. Over the years he would teach every course in the kinesiology curriculum.
He was appointed chair of the PE department in 1965 and became Pasadena's athletic director in 1967. From that point on, until his retirement as baseball coach in 1999, Land served as athletic director, PE department chair and baseball head coach.

Some regional and CWS appearances, looks like Jay was building a juggernaut.
