What is your preferred Bible translation

I love the KJV, especially for it’s poetic reading, strong founding in the TR, and 400 plus year old reliability, so I tend to stick with it as home base, but I also like the NKJV, and occasionally venture to the ESV and NIV.
Looking to make my first actual premium bible purchase and trying to decide on version to go with. I’ve recently run across the Humble Lamb Bibles which are anything but humble in price from what I’m accustomed to spending on a bible, but superb in readability, design, comfort, and construction to the point it has me seriously considering pulling the trigger for a premium bible and eventual keepsake or hand me down.
I’ve also considered the Cambridge, Holman, and RL Allen in either goat or calf skin, but none of them really have grabbed me like the Humble Lamb, most probably because of the text and layout, but I’m also open to other suggestions.

Is there a version that doesn’t contradict itself in terms of various issues like the existence of purgatory?

I read the KJV but will go to bibleref.com to look at other translations if I feel there is something I’m not getting or understanding.

Ok, what about the other 1600 years?

All the major publishers are good, really just what do you want to use it for.
You want to study get a good study Bible.
Want to write in it, get a journal Bible, want to know more about the culture or archaeology, get an archaeology/cultural Bible.

The what?

ESV but most Scripture in my mind is NIV based on my upbringing

I’m not a big study Bible guy as I feel like I might subconsciously confuse commentary with inspired scripture because it is written within the confines of the Bible. I’ve also done enough writing and highlighting in bibles to know I’m not a fan of that either. Mostly scripture alone with cross reference, definitions, etc…

Trump bible.
All jokes aside probably NIV because it’s easier for me to understand. I get lost in the language of KJV.

King James can be enjoyed as a towering achievement in English language literature without even a moment of reflection of personal “faith”. Every revision since then has been a worse dumbing down of perfection in words on paper

NASB 1995
NKJV
As i understand, and might be in error, the NIV omits certain words and verses from Greek texts, and takes greater liberty in the translation from to English.
