CHARLESTON, S.C. (WVUE) - Rita LeBlanc, the 48-year-old granddaughter of late Saints owner Tom Benson, was arrested in downtown Charleston this week after police say she shoved a parking enforcement officer during an altercation over a vehicle boot.
According to the Charleston Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of Meeting and Water Streets for a report of an assault involving a city employee.
Sgt. Chris Stinson said LeBlanc allegedly pushed the officer and briefly took possession of the locking tool used to apply a parking boot to a vehicle. She was arrested and booked Monday on a charge of hindering an officer or city employee.
Charleston County jail records show LeBlanc was released Tuesday on a personal recognizance bond.
LeBlanc was once considered the heir apparent to the New Orleans Saints franchise before a widely publicized family dispute. Her grandfather, Tom Benson, ultimately removed her from his succession plan and named his wife, Gayle Benson, as the principal owner before his death in 2018.
