Doing a Chernobyl rewatch

Probably my 3rd or 4th watch and it gets better with every watch.
The pilot episode is just brilliant. The final scene in the pilot is subtly one of the best ends to an episode ever. Showing the kids playing outside and everyone laughing and joking in town then the camera just stops on the sidewalk and all of a sudden a bird falls from the sky and flops dead. There were plenty of O sh*t moments in the episode but that one drove home the O sh*t this is so much worse than we thought.
It's almost hard to imagine that the writer of this is the co-writer for The Last of Us. How do you go from something this great to that turd level writing?
If you haven't watched this, start it tonight. If you haven't watched it in a while, queue it up.

Mazin had to have stolen the Chernobyl scripts from someone. It is the only deviation from his entire filmography of dogshit

I mean isn't a little easier to write true historical events as they occur rather than fiction, especially when its something as interesting and world impactful as Chernobyl. Not taking up for him because LOU is not good but seems like 2 different talent sets entirely as writer to me.
ETA: Although, as left as it is, I did get a laugh or two out of Mythic Quest.

I looked him up last night after the post credit interviews because I didn't remember his catalog and figured The Last of Us had to be his bad writing outlier. Turns out Chernobyl is his outlier because everything else he's done has sucked.

Paul Ritter absolutely kills it as Dyaltov. Sadly, the actor was not able to capitalize on his success as he died not shortly after from a brain tumour.
Jared Harris is brilliant as Legasov.
Chernobyl is one of my all-time favourite television series, right up there with Dark. Pure brilliance.

Then rewatchability is off the charts.

The makeup that they used to show the effects of the radiation on the plant workers and firemen was amazing but sad when you consider that the real workers and firemen actually had to endure that hell of absolute body failure and grueling deaths.

Jared Harris was incredible in this. They also did a pretty phenomenal job breaking down the events and explaining nuclear fission.

The series was incredible but Ive never done a rewatch. I feel like enough time has passed now so maybe it's time after the CWS and NBA end

Was watching episode three last night and I've been telling Mrs. Iwy to watch it for years now and she has never wanted to because she doesn't like watching sad stuff. But she saw 10 minutes of episode three and was like "Ok I'll watch it with you if you want me to." So now I'm starting my rewatch over again
