With 1 out, runners on 2nd and third in the top of the 9th in a tie game?

That was one for the ages. Gave up the hit, but then stepped up and struck out the next two.

Mayers hadn't been in that type of pressure situation all year. Kudos to him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he went changeup on that first pitch?, because they probably figured the batter was preparing for heat. Mayers did really well after that.

I thought slider, but either way it was off speed. I wanna say the tv read 89 on the pitch, or thereabouts.

It was an interesting spot to bring him in. Jay was caught in between of trying to save the big arms for thursday and also trying to get a K to keep the run off the board. I understood it, just wish the first pitch of the at bat had been mayers bread and butter

Exactly.

He was looking for a couple of punch outs and Mayers was his best option, I think. Jacob got the Ks, but gave up the hit.

It all worked out. We got the W and our staff is rested for the weekend.

Not nervous. I thought we had given up and was ready for game 2.

I'm not certain which pitch it was but it wasn't a bad pitch. He didn't leave it up it was lower part of the zone.

We got unlucky there with good hitting by Arkansas but boy did that change fast. Mayers really pitched well in a high leverage spot. I'm constantly amazed how Jay gets the best out of his players year after year in the biggest moments.

Now lets get two more wins!!

Wasn't nervous at all. I had accepted the fact that Jay was conceding the game and going all in tonight.

I told my buddies the first pitch was going to the backstop and the runner on third was scoring. That’s how much I was worried.

Nervous? No. I didn’t like the 1st called pitch, but I wasn’t nervous. He has a high K rate. We needed a punch out there.

Not really nervous. He had a base open and he was probably our best chance to get a strikeout at that point outside of going to Eyanson.

Idk how Thomas was ready to swing at that one. Mayers had 20 walks in 14 innings and he swung at the first pitch. If he had popped that one up he probably would’ve gotten an earful from DVH
