Cooper Williams’ outing

I didn’t have a good view of ball/strike calls, but it looked like he was just missing on most of those pitches.
First time on the mound in Omaha in a tight spot and a big game - I didn’t think it was a discouraging outing.
How did it look on TV?

he was just barely missing.

Many of the ball/strike calls could have gone the other way.
Cooper did fine.

it looked like the umpire was squeezing him after having a pretty big strike zone all damn game
he didnt pitch bad at all, his hit he gave up was a BS slow roller
other than the last walk, he was all over the zone, all around it.
he will be fine and will be needed again.

He’s young and a very good talent. Just frustrating that at this level when you absolutely have to throw a strike, nothing off speed or fancy, and you can’t…that’s hard to digest. Other posters are correct, ump squeezed him. He was close.

I don't think it was as bad as it seemed. I think he could have dialed in, but it's not like we were in a tough spot where we didn't have options.

Isn’t his job to not throw it where they can hit it??

Not that bad.
That was good experience for him.

He kept the ball low and the ump got very tight on his zone. I wasn't discouraged by his outing,

I didn't like how Luis was setting up off the side of the plate on a couple of those pitches. I guess just trying to get someone reaching, but we really just needed strikes and not get into a jam since our bats were as hot as what they were.

He wasn’t bad, it was just one of those outings. A guy like him doesn’t have a consistent swing and miss pitch against good teams like the ones that are left so you have to deal with weak contact being part of it

He did fine and I think Jay won’t hesitate to go to him again in the next couple of days if the situation calls for it.

The umps zone tightened up after Savage's hissy fit

I’m sure we’ll see Primeaux in a lefty spot tomorrow, but it sounds like Jay will still like Cooper as the top option when available.

I thought he threw a lot of good pitches that just missed or were missed by the ump and, as a freshman, he got frustrated. It was not nearly as bad as the box score leads one to believe.

You're what they call shallow

He got squeezed just a bit, but this was a weird game. UCLA’s runs almost all came from infield singles and soft contact. With Williams living in the low 90s, the combo of being squeezed by the ump and some of the contact going to no man’s land led to his results. I’m not discouraged by his outing at all.

Cooper did just fine.
People were complaining for no reason. Jay will 100% go back to him later
