75 in custody; firearms and gambling cash seized in Alabama cockfighting crackdown
Cockfighting operation shut down
Federal agents led an investigation into a cockfighting operation in Blount County. June 14, 2025.Homeland Security Investigations
Federal agents, state and local law enforcement officers dismantled a cockfighting fighting ring in Blount County on Saturday.
Seventy-five people were taken into custody on criminal and civil charges, Special Agent Steven Schrank told AL.com. The operation, under the umbrella of the Gulf of America Homeland Security, is still ongoing.
Suspects taken into custody included a mixture of American citizens, those were here lawfully, but “a large number are illegal aliens,” Schrank said.
The investigation exposed more than just animal cruelty, federal officials said. The ring was tied to a network of organized criminal activity, including illegal gambling, drug trafficking, and violent offenses.

I may have possibly heard rumors that it's big just on the other side of the river between Port Allen and Plaquemine.

I have many times. I loved it. My cousins used to raise and train some excellent birds. Never been to gaff (knife) fights. Only natural hill (spurs). I'd go tomorrow if they legalized it.

Yes when I was younger in the 80's and 90's. Actually not a bad time if you like hanging out with rednecks and Mexicans in the woods of Alabama.
