Alaska Airlines

How is Alaska Airlines? I typically fly United or American, but there is a direct AA flight that looks attractive. Their boarding process/open seating gives me pause since it will be a 4+ hour flight and I am traveling with two kids. Appreciate any feedback.

Flew with them to Seattle out of MSY. We were able to pick our seats when buying the flights. No issues with them at all.

They don't have open seating on Alaska. If you buy the cheapest ticket, then you'll have your seats assigned to you at check-in. Regular tickets you pick your seat. The only two things I'm not a fan of on Alaska is using personal entertainment devices and their operations at SEA seeming like a zoo at certain times of the day, but those are small nitpicky items.
20 minute baggage guarantee if you end up checking luggage. Usually friendly flight attendants
Also a small note, AA is usually referred to as American Airlines, AS is Alaska Airlines

I have flown them a couple of times between Fairbanks and Seward to Seattle. No problems with them.

I’ve only flown once
R/T New Orleans to Seattle
Only direct flight out of NOLA to Seattle at the time
Flight out was scheduled for 6:30am. Got to the airport at 5:15am. Flight was delayed almost 5 hours til 11:15am. I had even booked a hotel the night before close to the airport to be on time.
Would never fly this airline again.

Alaska is a great airline. Maybe the best US carrier I've flown.

You’re soon going to be out of airlines to fly if this is your criteria baw

My only real issue with AS is their all narrow body fleet. Flying cross country on a 737 isn’t fun.
Yes I know most other airlines do it too. I actively look for a widebody jet on transcon flights.

They are the best domestic airline, especially since they bought out Hawaiian, what was the other top domestic airline.

We might have been on the same flight. Same story. I got a notification the night before saying it would be delayed, but I called and couldn’t get confirmation. Crew at the airport weren’t there early so took forever to check bags in.
That being said, plane was clean. Crew was nice. Return trip was good. I’d fly them again. I’ve had worse experiences with other airlines.

They don't have seatback screens, and make you connect your device to their wifi to consume content.

Far better than American Air. I used to like flying them when they had Delta mileage credits. Close to par with Delta service levels, above United.

You can connect to the WiFi for free to get the entertainment, but getting to the Internet will cost you $8.
