If you're facilitating attacks on another country you're at war with them whether its declared or not.
We've been in a war with Russia now for years on the same terms, its just politically expedient for both sides to pretend otherwise.
If Mexico were launching attacks on San Antonio using Chinese weapons with Chinese advisors I would consider attacks on China justified.

The US defending Israel from Iranian rockets will keep the conflict from escalating. If Israel starts taking a bunch of casualties all bets are off. Us shooting down Iranian missiles helps Iran as much as it does Israel
