Sam Burns fires a 5 under 65 and is one shot back through two rounds of US Open. I predict he'll be in the lead at the end of the day because the leader (Spaun) is just starting and the course is getting more brutal by the hour. Only 8 players currently under par.

I put a $20 bet for him to win. Pays $1620. Cash out is currently at $242.

He's currently tied for 1st @ -3. Days 3 & 4 are always telling the tale

Key today is he hit most of the fairways. His last hole (the 9th) his drive went into the tall native grass rough and he had to take a penalty. He got on the green in three and made a long putt, 20 to 25 feet, for par and made it. His putting was great.

NewOrleansBlend will be here shortly to comment how Burns isn't playing under pressure, or something...

Not to be cocky, but my prediction of several hours ago that Burns would be in lead at end of day came true. Just has to keep gutting it out. Make as many pars as possible and make people catch him.

Phillip barbaree is also doing well. Lsu grad from shreveport. He’s tied for 45th. Crazy to have 2 lsu grads, same age, same town, doing well in one of the hardest tournaments.

With his short game, he just needs to find fairways. Put an iron in his hands in the short grass, and there aren't many as good as he is.

I think Barbaree and Burns went to the same small high school too.
