As I understand it, the bill has been amended to say that a Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) cannot own or be associated with a retail pharmacy.

CVS is apparently freaking out and robo-texting their customers telling them to pressure the legislature to defeat it.

Threatening to pull CVS out of the state.

If CVS pharmacy leaves, I’m trying to see why this is a big loss. Horrible company.

As a Kentuckian, I can say CVS sucks here too.

Our loggers will take a huge hit without the cvs receipts.

I literally just got a text that said:

quote:

Louisiana lawmakers are still considering a plan to force pharmacies to close. These mandates would leave Louisianans, including seniors, veterans, and patients with grave health conditions, with lost access to their medications. Watch this ad from Save Our Benefits, to learn more about the harm these proposals would have on Louisiana patients:

It's like they tried to use every buzz word they could. Nobody believes that seniors, veterans, and patients with grave health conditions are going to go without medication.

would be a huge inconvenience at first for a lot of people. Most people get their meds from cvs or Walgreens. There's not enough alternative pharmacies in the market.

Depends where you live I guess but I’m sure local independents will quickly fill the void. I’m friends with an independent pharmacy owner and he is pretty excited about the bill.

ETA: I’m now seeing lots of social media posts from local independent pharmacies basically saying CVS/Caremark have been gaming the system creating unfair advantages.

Are there no local pharmacies in your city? My local one is awesome, I have never had to wait more than 2-3 minutes to get a prescription filled, including a walk up where I hand them the paperwork (not a phone in etc).

Anytime I go to a big pharmacy I have to wait for 15-60 minutes.

Screw big box drug stores.

MAGA is targeting big pharma to lower prices for consumers and big pharma is trying to fight back with these doom texts.

Cutting out PBM (pharmacy benefit mgmt) middle men that drive prices up to keep the corporate profits gravy train going.

I never used local pharmacies until about 2.5 years ago when my newborn son needed heart medication that had to be compounded at the pharmacy. CVS and Walgreens don't do it, so I we used a local pharmacy. And then we started using a nother local pharmacy after that.

Telling me CVS is closing is like saying all the Jack N the Boxes restraunts are closing. I don't want to go there anyway.

What is your Zip Code? I can help you find a locally owned pharmacy very close on Google Maps. There are about 4 non CVS/Walgreeens pharmacies within a 5 minute drive of my house.

They arent leaving. They just want to continue to double dip.

They will stop being a PBM, then be forced to lower their drug prices, because they cant PBM their way to their current pricing structure any longer

Its a lose/lose for them

Seems like they are saying they would rather be a PBM if they have to choose.

Maybe they are lying.

The link says the leges called them out for that tweet. Already happened in Arky. But they only had 23 pharmacies there, so they closed them. They wont close 180 in La. Because there is no guarantee they will always be a PBM, which is rebid from insurers annually
