Probably cuz white people don’t form a single ethnic/cultural community strengthened by centuries of exclusion and trauma. And I’m not some woke leftist, but from an anthropological perspective, the Black American cultural identity is much more cohesive and unified and communitarian than White American culture (which does exist, just much more loosely as a result of diversity of countries/cultures of origin, religion, politics, geography, etc) And until maybe the last decade, there’s not really been much external pressure to bind together as a unified white ethnic group against some exterior threat like Black folk had to do since the 1600s until like the 1980s
BET awards celebrate black culture, which is a fairly well-defined, unified thing. But as a southern rural white dude, I don’t really feel any kind of cultural affinity with someone just cuz they’re White, ya know? They most likely talk different, eat different, listen to different music, pray different, have different values, etc. Good for Caitlin Clark for being excellent but i wouldn’t feel like represented by her if she won something. Good for her, but she’s from a different white culture than me
