Correct me if I am wrong but up until the no call Brees and Payton were undefeated at home (6-0; 7-0 if we count superbowl until the no call. Since the No call at home (1-3).

Brees era was really a great time to be a saints fan, do not think we will witness anything like it ever again.

Anyway bring back Mike T.

One of the worst ideas ever. He’s washed up and sucks now in addition to him being a piece of shite person and a locker room cancer.

I can’t even think of a worse personnel decision.

We're already paying Olave to be injured and he isn't a cancer in the locker room.

I guess. But in my view Brees and Payton rode this train into the ground with not a lot to show for it.

Obviously you weren’t around for the 40 miserable years before they “rode things into the ground”. What a dumb thing to say.

You can give them credit for success, while also placing blame on them for no continuity plan.

I mean Sean Payton straight up quit and went to another team. After they went all in on Brees. There was no opportunity to start rebuilding.

Pretty dumb to not recognize the circumstances the Saints find themselves in are largely because of the autonomy Payton and Brees were given. I don’t have some inferiority complex because the Saints have historically not been good for most of the franchise’s history that clouds what I think is pretty obvious.

This. It’s definitely possible to do better than the Brees/Payton era. Saints fans are just accustomed to and accepting of mediocrity.

We made it to 3 NFC championship games with one victory and one Super Bowl with one victory during the Brees/Payton Era.

Meanwhile, the New England Patriots made it to 13 AFC Championship games and won 9 of them, and they made it to 9 Super Bowls while winning 6 of them during the Brady/Belichick Era.

It’s definitely possible for the Saints to do better than the Brees/Payton Era, but we’ll need to get rid of the loser mentality and culture of mediocrity before that can happen.

Drew Brees lost 9 games his final 3 seasons heading into his 40s

What blame does he get for our mess?

He should have retired earlier when he knew good and well that he was washed and had a dead noodle-arm. He was washed in 2019 and especially 2020. Pride stopped him from retiring after the 2018 NOLA No-Call debacle, because he wanted to make good on the failure of that season.

Drew retiring would have allowed us to sign Brady and likely have the same success that Tampa Bay has had the last 5 years.

Drew also would not have had to cave to the SJW mob and ruin his reputation in 2020 if he had done this and retired sooner.

You kind of just said it. He played into his 40s, and wanted full market value to do so, but couldn’t finish out his contract. Of course, he did get to break those records so good for him

The Saints weren’t going to tell him no if he wanted to keep playing. So he signed, which deferred developing any sort of replacement and gave us dead money to work around when he was ready to stop playing.

In short, he went out looking after himself. I don’t necessarily blame him for that, I just don’t understand how he seems to be so untouchable to Saints fans. He left when he was ready and didn’t look back.

2 reasons:

1.) Saints fans are accustomed to and accepting of mediocrity.

2.) Drew was the only truly great QB that the Saints have ever had.

It’s not their job, certainly not the QB to have a “continuity plan

And the franchise received draft picks for that.

Brees retired in 2020, they’ve had 4 years and counting to rebuild. It never ceases to amaze me that some of seem to think “rebuilding” in sports takes years and years like the government rebuilding a bridge or something
Now there are teams that are bad or “rebuilding” doesn’t years but that is because they’re poorly managed. That the Saints have been poorly managed is the fault of the GM/Pres/Owner not really the old coach, at least not this many years after he left (though you can fault him for some of his later draft picks). But in no universe is it the QBs responsibility that’s hit idiotic

They were Super Bowl contenders his last 4 years you moron

You don’t pass on that to “rebuild”

quote:

which deferred developing any sort of replacement

How many of the top QBs were “developed”? Typically if a team gets a
young QB they start him his rookie year at some point if he’s good they are set. Guys sitting 1 year is rare more than they pretty much just Rodgers and Love in the last 30 years or so.

What in the world has Gayle ever done to give you confidence to duplicate any part of the Brees/Payton era, let alone improve upon it?

It’s not going to happen and don’t delude yourself?

NOLA sports history has shown even if we get nice things and assets they eventually leave before their time.
