How Long Do External Bank Transfers Usually Take?

Just looking to compare experiences with external bank transfers.
I initiated a transfer from my USAA account to my new Pelican State Credit Union account on 6/3/2025. The money was withdrawn from USAA immediately, but as of today (Sunday, 6/8 - techically only 3 business days), it hasn’t posted to the PSCU account yet.
I’m guessing it’ll hit by Monday, so I’m not worried — just curious what others have seen timewise. USAA usually deposits funds into my account immediately when I’m on the receiving end of a transfer, but I realize that’s probably faster than most banks.
Anyone else run into similar timing with transfers between banks?

I use Synovus(local) and Betterment (online). Typically 3-5 days between each. Chase to Synovus took longer but there’s a reason I don’t use chase anymore.
I’ve seen as much as 10 days going from BofA to a small local bank but that was the first time we did that on the commercial side and may have been a check not a transfer.

I do bank to bank with 2 local banks and it normally takes 2 days.

In my experience it depends on the bank and the type of account. Most of the time I can transfer money from checking to checking and it’s available the same day. Checking to brokerage is usually immediate. Broker to checking usually takes two days.

I had 2 big expense report checks deposited as one check recently and my back put a 7 day hold on the access to those funds.

If they are small amounts have you thought about using Zelle if both institutions use it.
I have done this and the money was deposited almost instantly.
Of course you will need 2 Zelle accounts using 2 different Zelle names. Like one can be your phone number and the other an email address.

It's a significant amount, but not anything that should draw scrutiny.
I see many banks push Zelle. I don't have an account. I use Venmo, but I may look into Zelle.

Were they physical checks, or deposited as reimbursements into your account?

If I transfer from my checking to savings and vice versa within the same bank, it is instantaneously.
My original question shouldn't become an issue, as I will make adjustments on my end. I'm now on day 4 (business days), and my funds are still on hold.

This is why blockchain tech will eventually replace ACH. Instantaneous transfers while cutting out the middle man.

Minor update. Funds have still not been released. I’ve been told they will release on Thursday at midnight.
