That host is kind of funny. "Bono, with a history of questionable tax arrangements....." 
Murray is exactly right about what makes Bono's posturing so silly: it's not his money. I, like many taxpayers, don't appreciate some guy who dodges taxes in his own country, telling me how my tax dollars should be spent. He can frick off.

True story.
I got to work the Super Bowl in NOLA after 9/11 with a buddy of mine playing music for the nfl corporate party in the arena. We got to go down in the field for pregame, national anthem. Shook hands with HW Bush (was trying to meet Staubach. Guessed the wrong portal. Still cool.)
U2 played the pregame show so the bands were getting ready in the arena. The local band that played the arena were big fans, so we all went backstage to see if we could catch them walking across to the dome. Bono had his people come out before to ensure that we “kept our distance.” Fair enough. But then some dude comes by and very seriously says “There can be no photos taken of Bono. He has light sensitivity and flash photography could permanently damage his eyes. I will confiscate any cameras and remove you from the facility.” Ok boss. Sure. Don’t you play on a stage every night with bright arse lights flashing at you constantly and you’re worried about a disposable camera? (It was 2002. Dating myself.
) When they came out the folks we were with started getting really excited and fan-ny, nothing bad. The only thing Bono said was “no pictures please.” No acknowledgment other than that. The Edge was cool though.
I know you can’t judge people by a single interaction. But the entire thing was just bizarre. Compare that to one of my favorite celebrity encounter stories about two guys that realized Christopher McDonald was on their flight. They got off the plane and waited for him. As he passed one of the guys yelled “Shoota!” He stops and gives them a mountain of shite. “Can’t I travel without someone bothering me? That movie was 30 years ago. I wish you people would move on.” The guys were dumbstruck and speechless. He walks a few more feet. Stops. Turns around. Give them the double finger guns then thumbs to the chest and says with that cocky smirk “SHOOTA.”

saw shooter in a grocery store in la. couldn't quite place him. didn't say anything to him as we moved along the aisles. he noticed me giving him the side eye and gave me both barrels. not a word spoken
