Documentary on Paramount Plus. If you like the song, you’ll love this documentary. It was great.

Hit me in the feels several times.

Used to like the song when it first came out but got burned out on it because the local radio station played it about twice an hour

Will watch this, 100%.

Great song and great musicians that died. Seems like a solid topic for a documentary.

Exactly! It answered so many questions I had about this song.

Just watched it this afternoon, great doc about a great song which has always been one of my favorites. Really cool hearing Don go over the meaning and origin of the lyrics.

Especially the players trying to take the field representing the entire 60s counter culture and the marching band the military industrial complex.

quote:

Cause the players tried to take the field

The marching band refused to yield

I always kinda got the main meaning of that verse but had it backwards thinking the players would have been the powers that be and the marching band representing the protesters - thinking of typical high school social structures for the metaphor.

Too bad I don't have Paramount. Looks really good.

I have always maintained that the day James Paul McCartney leaves this realm will be the day that the music truly dies

I remember changing stations and it being on three of them at the same time.

One of the funny things from this doc was when they were
Interviewing Weird Al about his parody song based on American Pie. He said that Madonna later released her version of American Pie and young folks were confused as to why she would be doing version of his song.

I had no idea he had done a parody so i had to go on youtube to watch his version. It was pretty damned good!

The 1st time I went on Geraldo in April 1991 they filmed 2 shows that day...the 1st on was titled "The Day the Music Died" and it's guests included Buddy Holly's wife, Reggie Sue, Donna, and Little Richard. I got to meet them all.

Crazy thing is...The Day the Music Died...is the day my karate teacher was born.

He changed the messaging several times about this.

He previously said it was about The Beatles - The Marching Band and The Monkees - The Players.

Watched it today when first pitch was pushed back. Great Documentary. I’m glad I saw him when he came to The Strand back in the 90’s.

Crazy how just adding that piano really elevated the hell out of the song

I watched this a couple days ago, and I was sort of disappointed in it. It was a solid doc of course, but I just felt like it didn't teach me too much really.

And ole Don sure is cocky about how great he is.

I liked it, just not as much as I hoped I would.

I realized how much I still want to punch Garth Brooks in the face

He seems so pretentious

I like Garth Brooks. I really do.

But he always comes off so lame and cheesy and pretentious in almost everything he does. It’s an uncanny talent that he possesses.
