Recently, both my iPhone and my wife’s iPhone both go into SOS mode randomly at the same time….any idea as what is causing this (besides aliens)? It’s been in SOS for the past hour

Mine did it to me this afternoon for about 45 minutes. It’s a brand new iPhone 16 and I still don’t know why or how I got it back working. ?????

If your phone is shifting to SOS, it means you don’t have cell service. SOS isn’t the problem; it’s a symptom.

Don't know where you are... but same thing happened this afternoon here... Apparently, Verizon was down for an hour or so, at least in Germantown, TN.

sometime last year my phone kept going in and out of SOS including in areas where I should have service.

took it to AT&T and they gave me a new sim card and haven't had the issue since

Sometimes cell towers go down or you go out of cell service. That’s all this means.

Explain to your wife that "it just works".

My wife's iPhone 16 did the same thing, yesterday and through tonight. Spectrum tried downloading a new sim, twice. Spectrum does use Verison towers, so there is that. The funny thing is my Samsung was working perfectly during this whole episode. Spectrum couldn't answer why that was.

Apple removed one antenna to make room for the camera button on the side of the phone. Probably has something to do with the reception problems on the 16.

You can also reset carrier settings. Think of it like unplugging your cable modem completely. I've had to do it when moving from one eSIM to another to force a refresh of essentially everything connectivity related.
