18-Year Old Baylor DL Alex Foster, dies following shooting

Foster redshirted the 2024 season at Baylor and went through practice this spring.
The Greenville Police Department said they responded to reports of a shooting at 12:11 a.m. Wednesday and found a single male victim in his car with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead about half an hour later.
Greenville Police have not released the name of the victim. No arrests have been made but the investigation is ongoing.
"We are heartbroken by the unexpected loss of Alex Foster, a beloved member of our football family," Baylor coach Dave Aranda and athletic director Mack Rhoades said in a joint statement. "Our deepest condolences are with Alex's family and all who loved him, as we lift them up in prayer now and in the days to come. ... Alex's memory will forever be part of our hearts and this program."

I read on the OT board that they had a sniper for Greenville’s high school graduation this past Saturday to make sure nothing went down.

That’s insane. It’s a city of around 27K. You would think a small city like that would be semi-safe.

Somebody posted about it on the OT in the Greenville thread. Apparently things have gotten so bad in the city over the last few weeks that they have a nighttime curfew right now.

What is the reasoning Greenville has gotten so bad? I always knew it wasn’t the best place growing up, didn’t realize it was that bad.

Greenville was a decent place as far as delta cities go until Heather McTeer (Hudson-then/Toney-now) became Mayor around 20 years ago. I lived there for many years before and since, and it’s been a rapidly eroding shitshow since she took over. White flight and a corrupt city government have brought it to its knees. I finally moved away around a decade ago, and I doubt I’ll ever go back unless it’s a quick trip for work.

Pretty much in a straight line going North you have Tallulah (apparently shootings every night and a curfew), Lake Providence, Eudora, and Greenville.
I’ve spent a decent amount of time in Tallulah and Lake Providence. I have zero clue how it will ever get better.
