Plus a new pile of Electoral College votes that would probably go their way in Presidential elections. That’s definitely something to consider.

For the record, I doubt Canada will ever actually join the United States.

Canada should be a territory. Taxed without a voice.

I have a better idea. Canada stays a separate country and takes Washington, Oregon and Minnesota off our hands.

A more likely, and palatable, scenario would be Alberta declaring independence from Canada and entering an alliance of sorts with the USA. Special trade, border access, and security arrangements. Alberta has lots of natural resources, and have long felt taken advantage of by the more liberal parts of Canada.

Add Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and BC as states. That's 6 republican senators to 2 dem. Let Eastern Canada be a rump country, or, further split up into Rump Canada and Quebec. The Quebecois or a big chunk of them would like that enough to maybe get them onside.

Annex the Yukon to Alaska.

Give the Northwest Territories and Nunavut back to the "First Nations" people the Canadian libs are always blathering about.

Long live the Republic of Manskatberta!

It then could become a protectorate of the United States.

If Trump makes Canada the 51st state, he would effectively frick America for 200 years. We'd forever be a liberal nation with liberal laws and policies. It would completely reshape electoral politics, official political stance, the supreme court, etc..

Trump would completely frick up his to-date legacy. I'm not sure why he would want this, and he has to know this. The people around him know this and would have to tell him this. There's no way he would actually go through with it, even if it did become a real possibility.

Canada is too large to be one state, also the culture if far different from the east to the west.

Also, you have parts of Canada that still want to be a British colony, parts want to be French colony. Then you have a few states that want to join the United States.

In actuality, he's going to play this Golden Dome issue in a way that gets Canada to pay for a large chunk of it with some sort of on-going responsibility/updating throughout the years and probably some additional concession in exchange for him shutting up about making them a state and probably free trade with them.

Not going to happen, so stop thinking about it.

The most likely path (and still is very far-fetched at this time) for any sort of Canadian-US switch would be for Alberta to vote to leave Canada. They would then possibly need another vote to become a US state, but then would also need to get Congressional approval, create and pass a state constitution, etc.

If this long and tedious process were to happen, it would be a MAJOR problem for Canada as Alberta is home to 84% of Canada's oil production and 62% of Canada's natural gas production. Along with that, it's home to the vast majority of pipelines, electrical lines and roadways which link the rest of Canada to British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. Canada would either have to negotiate some incredible deals with the US to allow travel and commerce to continue through Alberta, would have to spend a frickton of money to create new routes up through the Northwest Territory (and then to BC and YT) or risk a domino effect as those two regions decide it's going to be easier on them to join the US as well.

Again though, the likelihood at this time of any of this actually happening is near zero.

This, or the US can just conqueror the big border cities. Should only take a couple of days.

Alberta can come on down. Same for Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Leave the frogs in the east, BC and the western progs, and urban Ontario to themselves.

Dude, no one really wants another state that votes like California's crazy liberal aunt. It's all a troll job.
