I just bought this one. A local appliance repair guy I trust says GE and Kitchen-Aid/Whirlpool are making the most repairable modern kitchen appliances, unless you can step up to Bosch, Miele, Sub-Zero or one of the other premium brands. External dispensers for water/ice are prone to breaking, so I went with a model with interior dispensers, that stores the ice in the freezer compartment. Not many bells and whistles on this one, but I figure that's less shite to break. If they make good phones and tvs, chances are they make shitty appliances. I'd caution you against Samsung and LG just based on the number of negative reviews I've heard.

Just bought that same exact one this weekend.
That's what i wanted as well. Tired of the damn ice maker freezing up or not working.

I ordered a water dispenser to change out b/c it's absolutely stupid to have to use 2 hands to get water on this GE fridge. It's just a simple piece of plastic that pops out and you can pop the new one in.

Only issue i've seen thus far is it makes like 5 ice cubes at a time. I got this thing delivered on Monday afternoon, and i still don't have a full bucket of ice, albeit we've used a little bit already, but still, it seems to take forever to make ice.

Don’t because side by sides have way better features for a fraction of the price and are an objectively better design.
None of that matters if you’re married though, I get it.
Size was super important to us so we got the LG “counter depth plus” because that was the best fit. I can’t think of anything else being more important if you’re already in the french door market for the looks unless you’re willing to remodel around a fridge.

Like what? ice dispenser in the door has always given me issues, with 3 different side by side fridges. What other features does a fridge have?

I want the least amount of features. I just want the damn thing to function reliably for a long time. KISS. I need it to keep the fridge cool, the crisper drawer to not freeze up, the freezer to freeze, a light to come on when i open it, water to dispense, and the ice maker to make ice and not freeze up. There's nothing else a fridge needs to do.

I just got rid of my 12 year old side by side that I've hated since day one. The fridge compartment always felt cramped and I always lost stuff in there. It couldn't fit a large pizza box, couldn't fit a sheet pan, and just all around frustrated me with the dimensions. I don't see how a French door model could possibly irritate me as much on that front to be honest. Teddy, thanks for the heads up. I just ordered that piece!

LGs all get compressor failure. It's an epidemic.
I can't stress enough don't buy lg fridges or Kenmore made in korea (lg). By far the worst brand for reliability.
They are like Hyu dai in the 80s.

I'm 6 years into my 2nd Maytag French door. It's a simple model w/ interior ice and water. I learned the need for door preventive maintenance on the 1st French door I had. All makes and models have a small device on the body at the top of the doors which positions the magnetic sealing bar when closing an opening. After ~5 years it is worn enough to cause occasional missed latches. It's a cheap part and a 1-screw DIY task to replace it. I could probably build up the worn part with epoxy if I wasn't so lazy.

That was several years ago and no current models in the US market are affected.

So Teddy you mean you can put this on the outside to not open the door everytime you want water?

My husband doesn’t want internal water/ice. Are y’all telling me it’s actually better that in the door??
