The U.S. Navy’s Carrier Air Wing 1 engaged in the largest maritime strike in Navy aviation history in terms of bomb tonnage earlier this year, a defense official confirmed to Military Times.

On Feb. 1, the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman launched 27 F/A-18 Super Hornets as part of a coordinated airstrike against Islamic State operatives in Somalia in collaboration with the federal government of Somalia, a defense official with knowledge of the strike said.

Sixteen aircraft dropped 124,000 pounds of ordnance on targets in less than two minutes.

“The command’s current assessment is that approximately 14 ISIS-Somalia operatives were killed and no civilians were harmed.”

I’m more intrigued by the fact that we dropped 60+ tons of munitions to kill a dozen skinnies.

It's a warning for China.

I’m sure the bombs dropped where also for infrastructure targets, not just the skinny baws.

what kind of infrastructure targets are there in Somalia? We dropped more pounds of bombs than they have pounds of concrete in the whole country.

9k tons per skinny doesn’t seem cost effective

This seems inefficient

It's a practice run.

You want your pilots to be good at doing this.

By my math, then, we would need 1.411 X 10^12 pounds of explosives to take out all of China.

One of the reasons a modern ballistic battleship needs to be built. It would be a heck of a lot cheaper than dropping $1million smart bombs.

The ratio gets a lot better when all the Chinese are on boats...

That doesn’t sound close to being correct

You should fact check yourself.
