Since I think Nikola Jokic just had the greatest regular season of any player that I...

---can remember...I'd like to take this opportunity to rant about one of my pet peeves. Namely...WHY in the world...does the NBA count "heaves" toward an individuals' 3-pt shooting stats? Jokic was an amazing 138-331...41.7%...on 3-pt shots...BUT...when you take into account his league-leading (by a bunch) 22 "heaves" of which he hit 2...he shot a VERY close to league leading 44.01% on 136-309.

I fully expect the NBA to remedy this silly situation as soon as next season.

(FYI...my understanding is..."heaves" are considered by the NBA, to be shots taken from beyond midcourt at the end of the 1st, 2nd or 3rd quarters.)

If they don’t count as shots, what are they

Same as the G League has done this past season. A missed "heave" would result in a "team missed FG"...but would NOT count against the individual's shooting stats.

Basically...NBA is just trying to get players to take the last second shot instead of stalling and then shooting it...JUST after...the horn sounds. Joker is about the only NBA player that doesn't play that game.

Quality idea tbh

Naji Marshall is a heave king as well. Probably would bump his percentage up from 27 to 29% or something like that if accounted for.

If he makes the “heave” does it not count as a made FG?

Just silly, like not counting a Hail Mary at end of game as a pass attempt.

From what I've read...the NBA plans to "count" a heave for the individual...IF he makes the shot...but only count it against the team...if he misses it.

Bottom line...sounds like they are REALLY trying to stop the "stalling"...and then shooting JUST after the horn sounds. Excellent idea & should lead to a MUCH better situation for the fans.

I love watching them do this...

Some Wednesday night game against the Sacramento Kings.. Ball inbounds to James Harden.. He catches, he turns, he ...turns some more.. he finally gathers to annnd.....

Dawww he got it off JUST after the buzzer so it doesn't count against his 3p%

Not sure CJ or Josh Hart ever took a heave shot. Always one too many dribbles to get the shot off.

Nothing needs to change imo

If players are selfish and care more about their stats, that's on them.

And yes I know players have incentives in contracts, that's on them as I'm sure it could be very easily remedied with a clause in the contract removing heaves from the 3pt% needed to hit said incentive since it's tracked anyway.

I just don't buy any of the excuses other than the player cares more about himself than his team.

Don't change it.

Welcome to the NBA since free agency, they all care more about their stats than the team.
