Trump Intends to Cancel All Federal Funds Directed at Harvard

A letter to federal agencies will instruct them to end contracts, totaling about $100 million. It is meant to sever the government’s remaining ties with Harvard.

The Trump administration is set to cancel the federal government’s remaining federal contracts with Harvard University — worth an estimated $100 million, according to a letter that is being sent to federal agencies on Tuesday. The letter also instructs agencies to “find alternative vendors” for future services.
The additional planned cuts, outlined in a draft of the letter obtained by The New York Times, represented what an administration official called a complete severance of the government’s longstanding business relationship with Harvard.
The letter is the latest example of the Trump administration’s determination to bring Harvard — arguably the country’s most elite and culturally dominant university — to its knees, by undermining its financial health and global influence. Since last month, the administration has frozen about $3.2 billion in grants and contracts with Harvard. And it has tried to halt the university’s ability to enroll international students.
The latest letter, dated May 27 from the U.S. General Services Administration, is expected to be delivered Tuesday morning to federal agencies, according to an administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the official had not been authorized to discuss internal communications.
quote:
Examples of contracts that would be affected, according to a federal database, include a $49,858 National Institutes of Health contract to investigate the effects of coffee drinking and a $25,800 Homeland Security Department contract for senior executive training. Some of the Harvard contracts under review may have already been subject to “stop work” orders.
“Going forward, we also encourage your agency to seek alternative vendors for future services where you had previously considered Harvard,” the letter said.

Unless it is directly for research that cannot be performed anywhere else, there is absolutely no reason that a private institution should receive a dime of Federal funding...

This will be reversed by a higher judge.
Since this was against Harvard it could have been heard by a local judge i am guessing. It will be overruled but it takes time which is all they care about.
At least I am guessing.

Under our constitution, which Trump hasn’t read, Harvard is entitled to equal protection under the law. Equal protection is a concept that was created to ensure that America would be different than the European monarchies, where an angry king can apply laws against his personal enemies.

quote:it already has been. Oddly enough it's the same judge that got reversed in the Harvard Supreme Cort case on racist admissions policies. What are the odds? There must only be 3 or 4 judges in the entire country.
This will be halted by a judge.
ETA: Alison Buroughs blocked DJT from halting foreign students at Harvard is the same one who agreed with Harvards racist admissions policies and got slapped down by the SC

Funny, I thought equal protection applied to Jews and Asians.

What if the institution chooses to blatantly disregard said law. Are they above any reproach?

But Harvard only has 52 billy stacked up in the endowment fund. This is BS. I'm gonna lose sleep over stressing out about whether or not Harvard will be able to pay their bills moving forward.

He should end federal funds to all colleges and universities. Govt money is a corrupting influence on academia, similar to the way that govt funding corrupts news media. They churn out "research" that has zero ROI, other than to acquire more govt grants.

Wtf are you talking about? Harvard hasn’t been denied “equal protection” of the laws. It’s a discretionary government contract. It’s, you know, discretionary inherently.

Will be stopped by a judge that went to Harvard
Seriously, don't stop at this school, there are others that need to be spanked

That person needs to be found and fired.

Trump offered Harvard the easy way, and they refused. They wanted to “resist” and fight. Now they get reap the whirlwind as Chuck Schumer would say.

Trump has forced the democrat party, formerly the party of the working class, to take up the fight for billion dollar Ivy League schools. I fricking love it.

Heck, this doesn't even need to be a federal judge since it would only pertain to Harvard.

Are they entitled to federal funding?
Is he bullying them? Sure.
Is he doing anything different than previous administrations have done with things like the covid shot, drinking age etc etc.
They made dollars dependent on their demands.
