Will collecting Pokemon go the way of Beanie Babies, and come to a crashing halt?

I think Pokemon collecting maybe bigger than sports cards right now. I remember back in the late 90’s, people dropping their life savings on Beanie Babies, thinking they will sell them in 30 years as millionaires.
At least Pokemon has a purpose, but I don’t get it (actually I do, I had a baseball collecting habit back in the 90’s, wasting $1000’s.
I saw a guy at a garage sale a couple weeks ago, drop $1500 on a collection of Pokemon.
Other than 1st edition, refractor Charzar and Picachu, I have zero knowledge.

Beanie Babies were a flash in the pan, Pokemon cards have had their own trading economy for 25 plus years. Even if the bubble bursts on the rare cards, enough people still play it across multiple generations that there will always be demand.

It’s bigger than it’s ever been and still growing. Pokemon is bigger than Disney. Much bigger in fact and the gap is only widening

You do realize some bean babies were bringing $1000’s of dollars as well.
All the Pokemon company has to do is print all they want, like Upper Deck did with Griffey rookie card, driving the price way down.

Naw. Pokemon has too big of an international draw as well to ever really die. Difference between beanie babies and Pokemon is that Pokemon is more than just the card game. It will stay relevant for a long arse time.

There is no doubt about it.
I collect sports cards, I am actually about to turn my collection into older cards that hold their value, but Pokemon is huge. One of my good friend's son collects Pokemon. A few months ago he bought a few packs at a CVS and pulled some card he brought to a card shop and sold for $300.
Its bigger than what sports cards were to those of us who grew up during the 90s. I want to say yes it will be like Beanie Babies, but it might come down to a generation losing interest, but then at some point it picks up again.. But between Pokemon and all that Magic stuff.. Its crazy..

On what? Just buying cards?
I know Post Malone awhile back bought a Pokemon card for just over $1M.

Pokemon is multigenerational at this point. I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.
ETA: I wish I had interest in it when I was a kid because I keep everything in immaculate condition. Just never had any interest in Pokemon.

Upper Deck did all of us collectors dirty when that news dropped. It sucked watching the value of your collection go “poof” overnight.
That and I think I remember card values also plummeting b/c of the players (McGwire, Sosa, Canseco) getting busted for PEDs also. But the oversupply was heartbreaking.

Man I wish I still had my Pokémon cards or sports cards from when I was a kid. I didn’t realize the Pokémon cards were worth that much, my kid is now collecting them 25-30 years later. I still remember the night my mom brought home a first edition set she found at the Slidell mall I was so excited.
I had a few sports cards that are probably worth a good bit now all in cases.

My elementary age kids love that shite but if you’re an adult collecting Pokémon cards damn you’re not gonna make it
