2 seasons too late

quote:

EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video will not be renewing The Wheel of Time for a fourth season. The decision, which comes more than a month after the Season 3 finale was released April 17, followed lengthy deliberations. As often is the case in the current economic environment, the reasons were financial as the series is liked creatively by the streamer’s executives.

Good.

One of the most painful failures of adaptation I've seen. They absolutely butchered a great series and a lot of great characters.

Can't be good news for RoP.

I honestly knew zero of WoT. No interest whatsoever. But the way Amazon tried to pair it with RoP in their promotion, this has to be a bit of a gut punch.

May it end up like Disney's Willow and be erased from the platform entirely.

The trope of all close female friends have to be "Subaru Owners" was probably the last straw.

This is what happens when you get a Rafe in who believes their take on the original material is better than the original material itself. When Rafe sells over 100M individual books, he can claim the ability and experience to change stuff. Until then, write the fricking screenplay from the books.

Hate to say it, but they did it to themselves with the casting decisions.

I haven't watched it since the first season i struggled through but its kinda crazy they cancelled it after positive reviews for s3.

It just wasnt entertaining to me as someone that didnt know the source material and the people that did know the source material hated it cuz it wasnt true to it.

Such a fail.

From the episodes i watched it wouldnt have mattered who they cast at all. The story was confusing and sloppy

The casting wasn't great, but the adaptation was much much worse.

In lots of ways, this was worse

This could have been the next big franchise, which would have been a huge score for Amazon. From what I've heard of the books, it certainly had the potential. But they took a giant shite on it from the start. I saw better production standards from Xena Warrior Princess.
I'm a pretty big fantasy fan, and I WANTED to like this, but that first season was painfully bad. I remember them bitching about Rings of Power getting all the funding or something like that, but it was terrible.

I will say that season 2 was okay and there was actually pretty good. They screwed themselves by making season one such an abomination that 90% of people rightfully stopped watching

As a big Wheel of Time book fan, can someone please reassure me that we will eventually get a reboot? Within 25-30 years?

Let's see if they have the guts to axe Rings of Power. There's absolutely no way the viewership it gets could ever justify the expense, but oh boy cancelling it would be humiliating.

I wish, but I'd be lying

The way things are going, if something is successful (ie Star Wars), you will see that sequelled and reworked over and over, to death. You will see stories that may otherwise never get made, somehow get shoehorned into the franchise and get greenlit.

But for the potential new entries, you get a very short leash, and if that doesn't work out, I think it gets tossed to the curb forevermore. No matter how good the original material was, studios are terrified of taking risks that have already not worked once.
