Eat all the sugar you want. Restrict protein, basically eliminate fat…..get shredded.

Thoughts?

Natural sugars are fine. Added sugars not so much.

The key is moderation, proper sleep, adequate exercise, and minimal mental stress

“Restrict protein” is relative to typical bro diets.

And then become insulin resistant, then diabetic, which will happen, I have been for 10 yrs,

For any one that wants to get healthy, eliminate all forms of sugar, and complex carbs from your diet, for diabetics it's an absolute must.

my last blood work done this week. AIC 5.9 down from 6.3 in November,
fasting glucose 97 down from 117 in November

And fasting insulin 3.0 down from 6.4 in November my Homa Ir ratio 1.7 down from2.8 in November which is indicating I am becoming insulin sensitive, the only Numbers that need improving is my lipids

I'll pass on the sugar diet

That is mostly what they are talking about eating.

Proponents of this are saying that focusing on sugars (sugar fasting) improves your metabolism to the point that you can eat as much as you want (of the foods they are talking about) and still lose weight/fat.
And it’s more protein/muscle sparing than a calorie restriction diet, because your body has all the glycogen it needs without breaking down muscle tissue.

Look up FGF21.

If they are right, it’s a big deal. The point being that if you can reliably lose fat and keep it low without wrecking your metabolism through excess calorie restriction, and in a way that keeps your energy levels high and makes you feel good, that's revolutionary.

Unless Mark does something weird in that video, the Sugar Diet most are talking about is better named Fruit till Noon.

The people having success are eating exclusively fruit, juice, and honey until noon, then transition to protein with limited fat later.

Part of the basis is that the “sugar” early in the day ramps up your metabolism and provides extra energy

I pretty sure this is how you get diabetes.

I’m pretty sure you’re thinking of sugary diets that include a lot of processed foods and that combine sugar with fat and lead to people being obese. That’s not what is being discussed here.

People are reflexively downvoting the thread without thinking about it or doing any research, discounting the possibility that some new and better way of thinking of this has emerged.
I’m not saying it’s certainly new or better, I’m saying I don’t understand the mindset of dismissing this stuff out of hand. Who does that serve? More pointedly, how does that help you, the person dismissing it?

You definitely have the idea, but there is also talk of extended (48 hours or more) “sugar fasts” to replace traditional fasting.

Personally, I’ve felt a benefit just by focusing on carb/energy consumption while staying below caloric requirements. It just feels good to be energized.

ETA: I’m also not sure “fruit till noon” integrates the idea of maxing out FGF21, which seems to be the key to this.

I’m also surprised this board hasn’t had more Ray Peat threads, as my X feed is full of Peat posts.

For anyone unfamiliar with Mark Bell, he’s about as legit as they come, has what might be the best podcast in strength and conditioning, and will genuinely try anything before casting judgement - hence his run on the Sugar Diet.

Most supermarket fruit is engineered to be crazy sugar bombs. It's not as healthful as is often casually portrayed.
