18 "tradition" should be retired too, and go back to normal. Les Miles is gone, people

Why now is the question?

LSU doesn't allow players to wear #5 or #9 either so retiring #4 just makes one more single-digit number unavailable.
Retiring a number that didn't win a Heisman or National Championship seems like a stretch, to me.

Yes. We already have starters on opposite sides of the ball wearing the same number.
We have a ring of honor. Put Charlie Alexander’s name and number on the stadium. That is good enough.

Gonna get real weird in 15 yrs when LSU retires three numbers from 2019

Agreed. And many names belong on the stadium facade. Many names.

It will get to the point where all the whole numbers are retired like on Futurama.

Yeah you can’t do this with all the single digit numbers. Hopefully they just do it ceremonially but people still get to wear it

I don’t think “retiring a jersey” = “retiring a number” for LSU Hall of Fame purposes. Only 20 is actually never used. LSU has the other two “retired jerseys” (21 and 37) on the current roster.

They’re not retiring his number. They’re retiring his jersey.

I agree… and I love JD5 but the only numbers that should be retired are #20 and #9

We’re gonna be like the Yankees and have no single digits left. #3 Faulk is on deck.

He was so good no one will ever stack up. He’s ascended to gawd level…
