…so unattractive that no man (or no man they would want) is interested? I can think of at least two I know that fit this situation.
Not trying to piss anyone off and not being judgmental, as I realize that loneliness sucks, but I really think this scenario is the case sometimes.

I have a cousin who is lesbian, and her "wife" is very pretty.

Based on what I see from students, this isn't the case at all.

A certain percentage of "gays and lesbians" are just asexual and essentially are roommates their partners. This includes the uglies, who just want companionship.

Eh, I don’t think so. Gay guys have to put in a lot of effort to look somewhat feminine. It’s a lot of work to perform that affectation.
Feminism has modern women thinking they are all 10’s. They choose other women because its cool to be an empowered woman who don’t need no man. Plus, they don’t have the social skills to really get along with another person, so after striking out in the hetero dating market, they just say, oh well, women are better anyway (cope).
But it doesn't last, and they become miserable 40 year old lesbians with no kids, no prospects, and lots of cats.

sadly, I believe this to be true, it's like the "I forgot I was raped until Sally Jessy Raphael reminded me of it" craze back in the 80s, every girl I ran into back then had been "raped," couldn't recall any details, but they ere sure of it
