This is the pic they took on set that started it. When the writers actually put together a quick script, and they decided to film something Paul Rudd had left to film a movie which is how McDermott got involved.

I really liked the no-name characters that only popped up once or twice a season: the guy who always tries to start a chant at town halls, the Jewler who gets thrown in a pond, religious couple that hates everything Leslie does, dude who runs the pawn shop, and the older lady who drank the sprinkler water and wanted “some” of her slugs gone, not all of them.
And who can forget…

When I saw that she had Michelle Obama on her podcast recently (and during this last rewatch when he cameos) I thought about that a lot.
Obviously there is an ocean between 2014 Joe Biden and 2025 Joe Biden.
Also… not to nerd out but do you think Leslie was (obviously) a democrat and Ben was a republican? In the final season two different groups are trying to get them to run for governor, with the DNC backing Leslie. And not a lot of democrats run on fiscal responsibility.
Not unheard of but a fun dynamic.
