Hilton Grand Vacations

Has anyone participated in the Hilton Grand Vacations program? I received a call today from HGV and they had an "unbelievable offer" for a bunch of different destinations at 80% off. The kicker was that I would need to sit through a 2-hour session with one of their sales people to discuss their timeshare program. I went ahead and signed up, it cost me ~$200 for a 4-day / 3-night trip to Myrtle Beach so I figured it would be worth it, as we were planning on a beach trip before school starts back anyways. They also had Charleston which I thought about but my 10-year old would rather be at the beach and there is not a lot to do that she (or even my wife) would enjoy in Charleston. Looks like we will be staying at the Doubletree Myrtle Beach, which for the dates we're looking the average night is $400. Just wondering what kind of madness i'm going to get into with this 2-hour session.

Not worth it in the slightest.

In what regard? I have sat through worse for 2 hours than a sales pitch on timeshares that I would never purchase and then I get a weekend away with my wife/daughter for $200. It's a 5 hour drive from me, so better than 30a and a lot more cost efficient. I know myrtle beach isn't known for spectacular beaches, but I think we can overcome that.

Set an alarm on your watch. At 2 hours tell them you are done and ask to be released. Simple. Except it's never really that simple.

I had no intention of buying. But they kept sweetening the pot and we actually signed up. Then I went home and researched time shares etc.. Found out I could buy a similar property/'week at a property' in the secondary market for a whole lot less.
Then I researched the South Carolina law on how much time I had to back out of that type of purchase. Three days. Then I sent them a letter cancelling the purchase.
I'm thankful every time I think about it that I did not go through with it.
Other than the initial cost the options to use your week (which is what we were actually buying IIRC) at another property say in Hawaii was more limited than what I would have thought. Being able to stay in a HGV property anywhere in the world was a big selling point to us but I think they over promised on that feature.
Other issues:
- Our kids would have inherited it and they didn't want it.
- The maintenance fees were not well defined and could have escalated a lot.
- Using the week at MB wasn't that valuable to us. We go there occasionally but just for 2 or 3 nights and we go in the off season.
It works for some people I guess but not for us.

Following… thinking about the same. Getting tons of offers for $150 3 nights in Orlando, Nashville, or Vegas.
When do you go? I’d love to hear the details on the “2 hours”…

We did one in Orlando; wife and I made it clear from the get go we were not interested. After 2 hours, they let us go without much hassle.

We are probably going right before school starts back up, which is at the beginning of August. If I remember, I will follow up with this post with my experience.

That is going to be my plan as well. Will walk in and tell them that I am here for the great deal we received on the hotel stay and will respectfully sit through the presentation to learn more, but will not be doing a timeshare.

There’s a reason they give the ‘free’ offers, they make them work. If they didn’t they wouldn’t do them.
It’s not a terrible deal if you sign up and actually use them. The problem is that the reality is most people don’t use them anywhere to the fullest so it’s just not a great deal.

Unless you're retired or have no kids, I do not see why owning a timeshare is a good decision.

My mom bought into Club Wyndham in Branson. Once you buy in, they will not stop upselling every chance you get. We used her points at Emerald Grand in Destin last year for a family trip. The front desk held the parking pass hostage until you agreed to attend a "refresher meeting". We finally had to become major aholes before they relented. Every time we use her club wyndham they want you to attend an hour meeting and its horrible pressure at check in. We did use it in Orlando recently and they were not just rude about the NO like the folks in Destin. Neither myself or my brother want this timeshare when she passes.

I did one of these for a Hilton in Las Vegas the first time I went there 8 years ago or so. It wasn't bad. Got a really good deal on the hotel stay. Two hours of listening to their sales pitch wasn't too bad.

I signed up for a 2-hour time-share presentation for Hilton Grand Vacations in Las Vegas five years ago. It was a big mistake. I'll never never do that again. I walked out. They put so much pressure to get you to purchase a time share. When the first guy ran out of gas he got his boss to take over with even more pressure. The discount room , free meal, free show and bonus points added to the credit card isn't worth listening to their crap. Be aware if you sign-up for a time share it's for life. You can't get out of it. When you die your survivors have to take it over. Also I heard they have "property maintenance fees" that increase over time. No thank you for time share presentations. I'll gladly pay for myself and family for our vacations.

It’s not “just two hours”. They will hound you your entire trip. You can ignore them, and yadda ya, but who wants to deal with that shite to save a few hundred bucks in a vacation?
Nothing is “free”.

Only you can decide what your time is worth.
I went on one of these more than 30 years ago. Never again.
