CBS News President and CEO Wendy McMahon announced Monday she was stepping down in another stunning move for the embattled company, Fox News Digital has confirmed.

Her exit follows that of longtime "60 Minutes" producer Bill Owens, who quit last month because he felt he'd lost journalistic independence amid an ongoing legal battle with President Donald Trump.

"Today, I am stepping down from my position as president and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures. It has been one of the most meaningful chapters in my career. Leading this extraordinary organization has been the honor of a lifetime because I got to work alongside all of you," McMahon wrote in a memo to staffers.

"At the same time, the past few months have been challenging," she continued. "It’s become clear that the company and I do not agree on the path forward. It’s time for me to move on and for this organization to move forward with new leadership."

McMahon’s departure comes as CBS parent company Paramount Global is in mediation with Trump's legal team, with hopes of settling a $20 billion lawsuit against CBS over its handling of a "60 Minutes" interview last year with then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump has accused CBS of aiding his 2024 Democratic opponent through deceptive editing just weeks before the presidential election.

Many believe Paramount Global is hoping to settle the suit ahead of a planned merger with Skydance Media in hopes of preventing potential retribution by Trump's FCC, which has the authority to halt the multibillion-dollar transaction. Shari Redstone, Paramount’s controlling shareholder, is reportedly in favor of settling with the president.

Meaningful chapters. So what chapter will be more meaningful? She had one of three.

You hate to see it, but you love to see it. The hits just keep on coming, and all because Kamala Harris wasn't even competent enough to give a decent interview to a corporate media outlet which was totally in the tank for her.

PS - Somebody better keep the long knives away from Scott Pelley.

Doesn’t CBS know they can settle this suit for 5 thousand dollars?

CBS caved when it would have ultimately prevailed. Shameful. No news organization should allow a president(any president) to intimidate it.
The purpose of a free press is not to please an elected official with its coverage.

Oh and BTW:

What did I say? I’ll acknowledge that I often think allegations of “coverup are nothing more than rank speculation based on nothing, but I don’t remember specifically making a statement about Biden.

Biden will be the candidate in November. He remains competent, regardless of things like heavily edited videos from G7. He will exceed expectations in the debate, just as he did in the State of the Union address.
The real “rope a dope” will be pulled off by Biden himself, with an assist from his opponents’ constant attacks on his abilities.

Don’t you think their lawyers gave them a briefing on their ability to “prevail” before them stepping down?

That’s where your little bubbled mind is flawed, they were calling themselves a news organization when they simply were not. They’re 100% an opinionated editorial with a political agenda for one party, period.

I’ve been wondering what kind of “journalistic integrity” involves editing in order to create a version of an interview that basically didn’t happen….for a presidential candidate of only one of the two leading parties?

I’m still wrapping my mind about their indignation at being called out on this and crying about their “journalistic independence”.

“Independence” to be a willing propaganda tool for the Democratic Party?

Ok….

She has no integrity. Shouldn’t neutrality and fairness be at the top of the list for the president of a news organization. She failed.
