Klapisch: Juan Soto had a chance to silence Yankees fans; Now he’s Jose Altuve

A great read from Bob Klapisch. Key points in bold for the short attention span millennials. Not a good look for the Mets.

NEW YORK — I don’t claim to be an expert in human behavior, but sometimes all you need is a halfway decent radar to know when someone is unhappy. That’s what I’m seeing and sensing in Mets right fielder Juan Soto after his lost weekend in the Bronx.
The man is downright miserable.
Although Soto said he was ready for the homecoming, he was shell-shocked by the time Sunday night rolled around. Three sell-out crowds broke him.
With only one hit in the Subway Series, Soto couldn’t have picked a worse time to slump. The army of Yankees loyalists crowned him as the new Jose Altuve.
But this is a far worse sentence. Altuve the cheater has been replaced by Soto the traitor.
quote:
What Soto needed was a couple of home runs over the short porch — monster blasts. That was the only response Yankees fans would’ve respected. But the tentative at-bats only made Soto look weak.
Friday’s booing rolled into Saturday. No more helmet tipping. No more turning around to interact with the Bleacher Creatures. Sunday was the worst day of all. By then, Soto was in a terrible mood.
He’d agreed to be miked up by ESPN in the second inning but changed his mind minutes before the game. Soto told Mets officials he was tired of answering questions about Yankees captain Aaron Judge and sick of explaining why he chose the Mets.
quote:
The second was Soto’s conduct after the Mets’ 8-2 loss. Not only was he held hitless, but the signature swag had vanished. Soto’s bat seemed slow, and more surprisingly, he’s put on a few pounds around the middle.
Just as Soto turned his back on ESPN, he did the same to reporters who were waiting to speak to him in the post-game clubhouse. Soto got dressed and began walking towards the door. He told a Mets official he’d be back to answer questions after seeing family members outside.
Soto never returned.
quote:
These are troubling signs for the Mets’ hierarchy. I’m told they’re concerned about Soto’s lack of enthusiasm for his new team. The only time Soto seemed happy this weekend was while he interacted with Judge, manager Aaron Boone and second baseman Jazz Chisholm during batting practice.

You really need to take a long, hard look at yourself. Are you employed? In a relationship? Do you have a group of friends you hang with in person other than the hours you spend arguing with people online? I’m going to guess no on all three.

Meanwhile, Soto to the Yankees:

They're aware of Altuve's playoff record vs. the yankees?

Another dumb Yankees writer hoping that he can further brand a great baseball player and personality as a "bad guy". A sad sack if shite.
I have zero respect for baseball writers.

Wrong on all three accounts. I manage to make time for your ol’ lady too

SoSo gets owned and doesn't want to talk? What a baby. Being a traitor has its consequences. Hope he enjoys the 800 million, though.

I’m sure he does. I bet he enjoys his World Series ring too.

Soto could have hit 1.000 for the series with 10 home runs and Yankees fans would have still given him shite. They are the most obnoxious, least-knowledgeable “fans” in baseball. Our resident Yankee fans on the MSB prove this to be true.

I’ve forgotten more about ball than you will ever know son.

This reads like a Bleacher Report from a MSB poster on here

Most would be embarrassed by an article of this nature, but others would share it on here with pride
The utmost in quality posters, to be sure

Well then you must have forgot that in order to be considered a goat, you need to show up come playoff time. Not bat below .200, have double the number of strike outs to hits, and drop a routine fly ball in the World Series. If the Yankees wanted to have playoff success, they would have been better off hitching their wagon to Soto instead of Judge.

so bizarre

Yes I don’t understand the attachment to a player your organization basically treated as a rental

They said the same thing about A-Rod, but then his greatness came through in October. Learn history of the game boy.

You pretty much proved my point. ARod is considered one of the goats, steroids or not, because of his postseason track record and clutch performances. Two things your false idol lacks
