I thought it was okay, not as good as people say it is.

I don't know why it won best picture.

Definitely felt the same.

I thought it was fine, especially the last parts of it, and I thought she did well.

Best Picture is a massive lol to me. It was just a "fine" movie

It’s a bottom 5 best picture winner since 2000. A lot of loners who liked all the boobz propped it up, but nothing about it was worth celebrating.

Her character was annoying. Of course liked the sex scenes/stripping. Henchmen were hilarious but not a movie will ever watch again.

I thought she did REALLY well towards the end of conveying someone who thinks they are having all of their dreams come true and the realization and resignation that she is back to hooking.

I thought the actress was great but a onetime watch for me similar to Uncut Gems.

Same, and I even liked it. I thought the lead actress did a great job, but apart from that there was nothing about it, from an artistic perspective, that I felt elevated it to being one of the years best films.

I thought it was entertaining as hell. Like a more comedic Uncut Gems and Spring Breakers. I didn’t really read much up on it before watching it so kept anticipating it to take a really dark turn but it didn’t. The opening scene basically tells you what type of movie you’re getting into.Gives it some rewatch ability imo. I like that actress too after never having seen her in anything before. She nailed the role and clearly did her homework

The final scene of the movie really ties it all together and Instead of it being a celebration of boss girl / baddie culture it really drives home of what the movie is really about - broken people.

I finally got around to watching this movie and really didn't know much at all about it so I went in with a pretty open mind about it. Until the three guys show up, I was thinking I appreciated the tits and arse but how embarrassing that this movie won Best Picture. At least once those guys showed up it turned into a funny movie for me. However, I still don't understand how this movie could be an Oscar winner for Best Picture. Is this really how low the Academy has sunk because of DEI?

I enjoyed it and the chick should’ve definitely been nominated for best actress. But best picture?

The awards shows are so compromised today anyway so who cares

Very meh. Could have cut about 30 mins off of the movie

What does DEI have to do with it?

Look at the competition:

The Brutalist
A Complete Unknown
Conclave
Dune 2
Emilia Perez (which was THE DEI nomination)
I'm Still Here
The Substance
Wicked

I could see arguments for Dune 2 for the Hollywood crowd, sure. I thought it was a really solid movie (Best Picture worthy? No)

Wicked should be nowhere on this list

2 standard Oscar-bait biopics are meh

I haven't seen Conclave, The Substance, or I'm Still Here (but it's foreign so very little shot), but only Conclave seems like a worthy challenger.

It was a weak year and Anora was good enough to win it. Conclave was not as good.

I liked it well enough. It was a lot sweeter and less gritty than I thought it would be. I had heard people compare it to Uncut Gems and I thought it was more like a screwball Coen Brothers movie with the dumb henchmen.

Do you really need me to post the link to the Oscars website? No, I know you're a contrarian on here. Any movie to even be considered for Best Picture is inherently DEI flavored:
quote:

Submitting a confidential Academy Inclusion Standards form (RAISE) and meeting TWO out of FOUR of the standards will be required for the film to be eligible for Best Picture consideration

So I go back to my previous statement that the Academy has sunk so low by making this decision that most movies just aren't that great anymore so pick something as long as it meets the DEI criteria! You even helped my argument.
