Another crappy OP

Matt Lee

quote:

Matt Lee, LSU's vice president for agriculture, will serve as the university's interim president starting July 1, the university said Monday.

He will serve as interim leader while the university conducts a national search for a permanent president. The announcement follows the news that LSU President William Tate IV will step down after June 30 to become president of Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Lee, who is also dean of LSU's agriculture college, oversees agriculture research and education at the college and the university's AgCenter. He previously held several leadership positions at LSU, including interim executive vice president and provost.

I've never heard of Matt Lee before now but just a quick read of his bio makes me hope he will at lease be considered for the permanent post as President of LSU. At least he got his PhD from LSU.

Not just that, but he received degrees in a curriculum of study that I've been assured is one of those Liberal Arts worthless degrees:
quote:

...a bachelor’s degree in sociology and philosophy from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1994. He received his master’s degree and Ph.D. in sociology from LSU

How could he possibly be the dean of the College of Agriculture with worthless Liberal Arts degrees?

He does have these degrees and PHD, but if you get a chance to meet him, you'd think he would be perfect for the position. He is 100% no BS

Making how much?

So maybe those degrees aren't worthless after all. Maybe it's not so much the degree you earn, but what you do with your education that matters.

Can you imagine your kid telling you they're going to double major in Sociology and Philosophy?

You just never know...

Matt is a great leader. I worked with him many years ago. He’s tough and has had several confrontations with faculty that were acting out of pocket.

He’s a good choice for interim President. He’ll keep the lights on and the ball rolling on projects.

Highly doubt he will be a candidate for the position permanently

Typically that's not a good thing in academia. You can get dinged on your accreditation from having too many PhD's on faculty from your own school.

It’s very unlikely to earn a living like him with those degrees. No one said no one can make money with those degrees, it’s just unlikely.

The same could be said about some law degrees.

I wonder how many people who were pre-law or pre-med as undergraduates never went on to law school or med school.

I originally thought he might be asked to step back in the interminable Provost role and eventually made permanent. This is better. I’ve worked with him during his time as interim provost and he’s got great institutional knowledge that I hope helps him excel in his new role.
