Is the U.S. unique in that settlers/immigrants celebrate their mother countries?

I mean you have Cinco de Mayo for Mexican immigrants waving Mexican flags.
You have St. Paddy's day for the Irish waving Irish flags.
You have Italian-American parades waving Italian flags.
I have Polish friends displaying polish flags.
etc.
etc.

I have nothing against this. In fact I like it. I like this kind of culture.

But you don't see this in other countries.

In fact, in Israel it is starkly the opposite. All the Eastern European settlers/conquerors/immigrants that settled Israel changed their Eastern European surnames to something more Hebrew sounding.

Is the U.S. unique in the fact that we celebrate other countries in our own country of America?

I’m pretty sure that I saw the Pakistanis in Ireland waving flags in city hall as they took over their government

But that’s kind of a new thing compared to ethnic groups being proud of their country here in America. But the new twist on that is now you see Mexican and Ukrainian flags displayed more prominently than the American flag.

Definitely not the American way.

The American way is to tell the mother country to frick off and then create our own new flag.

No, not unique. Only thing different, historically, is the sheer number of immigrants we have compared to other countries. They are starting to see lots of this now though.

No there are certainly other countries that celebrate ethnicity or such. Lots of South Americans are very proud of their roots especially when not Spanish - there are plenty of Italians, Germans, Welsh, and even Japanese in South America.

Its less common in "mother countries" like those in Europe, although recently middle eastern immigrants are happy to celebrate their roots very openly.

I personally love good Irish Bars and Italian restaurants, but most of those people are very clear they are Americans.

We quit asking or requiring people coming here to assimilate a long time ago... This is how you destroy a country...

Not immigrants as much as invaders.

This isnt that complicated...you see French flags in the French Quarter. People came here from Europe.. therefore you see the flags. Most people from Norway have been in Norway a long time so you wont see other flags.

The US has a huge influence on Trinidad, heck half of Brooklyn is Trini immigrants. Many happy Trinis when Trump won. Saw some American flags flying. So it works both ways.

We don't have a day celebrating our British heritage. But we sure have a lot of towns named after their towns. I think the thing we owe them for most is the influence of British thinkers on our founding fathers. Thank God we had founders who studied this stuff.

I'm really happy the British Colonists loyal to the Crown were real dicks to the British Colonists that were not loyal to the Crown in terms of not wanting the Patriots to write badly about George and not form militias with guns, or we would have never had the 1st and 2nd amendments.

You can still be proud of your heritage and be a good American. It's one thing to put your Italian, Irish, etc, flag out for various celebrations. It's just not something you would or should do every day.

Totally agree. It's acceptable in America.

Is that acceptable in China? Japan? Russia?

Probably not.
