Best Texas Dancehalls to see good concerts?

Trying to plan a trip for October to Texas. Looking into catching a concert but would love to experience a true dancehall. Billy Bobs, Gruene Hall, etc.
Any input is appreciated. Best ones? Worst ones? Best towns?
Big Texas country fan but never experienced a true Texas county dancehall vibe.

Gruene Hall is legendary and has a good many well known acts on stage. When we were thinking about an Austin/San. Antonio trip that didn't materialize for this spring, I looked at their calendar and was impressed. Pat Green was scheduled a few times, Robert Earl Keene, as well as a lot of the current red dirt torchbearers (Mickey and the Motorcars, Wilder Blue, etc.)

Is the Broken Spoke still in business?

I saw Styx at Billy Bob's a few years back. Bought tickets a few hours before the show and sat about 15 feet from the stage at a picnic table. Really cool vibe.

Gruene
John T Floores
Albert Ice House
Anhalt Hall
Hye Dance Hall
In Austin:
Broken Spoke
Dallas:
Sons of Herman....although they don't have as much live music as they used to
Ft Worth:
Billy Bobs really isnt a traditional dance hall. Stagecoach would be a more traditional option
Another place that is in a historic building but hasn't been a historic dance hall is Hico Hall in Hico which is between Ft Worth and Waco. I haven't been yet but they have been booking a lot of good bands ( my brother played there a month or so ago) lately and Hico is a cool little town

If you choose the New Braunfels area all the following would be less than an hour away. Cant really go wrong with any. Charlie Robisons sister Robyn co-ownes The Devils Backbone now, the place was made famous after Todd Snider wrote a song about it after getting lost trying to find Luckenbach. Randy Rogers now owns Cheatham Street, lots of guys got their start playing there for Texas Legend Kent Finley including George Strait, Todd Snider, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and The Randy Rogers Band. John T Floore is the place Charlie and Bruce Robison and Robert Earl Keen came up. That whole area is the cradle of Texas County.

Oh yea, forgot about that one, although its technically not a dance hall, more of a honky tonk....same with Rileys. Its a good spot to visit even if there isn't a band playing.

Just exploring the Texas scene while in college. Fell in love with the big names and just went from there.

Same here. It’s a great music scene for sure. I wish it dipped into Louisiana more but we got a little here and there mostly at the varsity.
The music scene alone makes Lubbock or Stillwater worth considering if you’re an 18 year old choosing a school.

I can't fully express as to how underwhelmed I was by Billy Bob's. Not worth the time.
If you're in Houston, you should check out Blanco's, Firehouse Saloon, and The Armadillo Palace.

It's just a sterile corporate venue masquerading as a honky tonk

Not so much a dance hall but pay attention to the schedule at Whitewater Amphitheater in Canyon Lake. They have some good shows
