Fight Club and Interstellar are two of my top movies of all time.

Since Nolan wrote/co-wrote I would say that gives him the edge. I would have to know to what extent Fincher reworked scripts to form a stronger opinion.

I like Fincher, but it's definitely Nolan.

I prefer Fincher's aesthetic but Nolan is probably "better"

Saw this on Reddit the other day. Lots of people saying Fincher. I say they are wrong. The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar, Oppenheimer, Batman trilogy are all fantastic and well done. Well acted too.

Nolan.

The Prestige is Nolan’s best film.

I agree with this.

I loved that film. I am surprised that Hugh or Scarlett has not worked on other films with him. Nolan usually likes to work with actors on multiple movies. Matt Damon said the only director to get him to work when he was stepping away from movies to help his marriage is Nolan. Nolan called about Oppenheimer and Damon told his wife he had to go shoot a movie.

For me it’s Fincher. Nolan is a better overall creator but shooting a film, Fincher is better.

It is Fincher, and the only arguments Nolan could submit as evidence are Memento and The Prestige.

But not the movie that won best picture or the two he was nominated for best director on?

Doesn’t make any sense.

I agree with the sentiment that I like Fincher’s style more but probably like more in Nolan’s catalog.

Regardless, the two of them and Villanueve are three of best of all time and we live in a world where they’re making movies at the same time.

I am kind of surprised that it's not Fincher in a landslide, but this board never fails to underwhelm.
The one thing that some of Fincher's movies have that are missing in most of Nolan's is the sharp commentary on human nature, or current society:
Gone Girl
The Social Network
Fight Club
The Game
The Killer

Speaking of. I watched the Game last week and I miss Fincher's old penchant for the voluminous, darkly lit houses.

Seven had tons of these scenes

The lady's house in the Game

The house in Fight Club

Panic Room

etc.

I think Zodiac had one

Don't forget Seven, Zodiac, The Girl w The Dragon Tattoo and Mindhunter. It's Fincher for me.

For me it's Fincher and it's not that close. And I really like Nolan btw but Fincher is at another level for me.

The original Swedish version was great with Noomi Rapace. They basically remade everything about that movie. It English version just kind of pisses me off because it wasn’t really unique.

Both in the upper upper levels of elite directors, for me Fincher wins hands down on just pure depth and ability to make it work on many different levels of genre and scale

Nolan is a better spectacle director and world creator, while Finchers excels in outlining the details and intricacies of the depraved world we already live in.

I just meant to list the films with the best social commentary, but yes, these are great also. I also think Benjamin Button doesn't get enough respect, given that the material was pretty challenging. He had a real touch of Terry Gilliam with B. Button.
