garden pond (fiberglass sugar kettle) maintenance

we have a 6' fiberglass sugar kettle pond in our landscape that i've done nothing with at this point, it's filled with rain water, not really clean as you would expect. wife wants to fancy it up with a fountain and more landscape around it so i figure i need to learn about how to maintain the water.
any good resources on how to keep the water clear, maybe sustain some vegetation and fish? it gets morning sun then shade past mid day.
thoughts, tips, etc appreciated.

We have one surrounded with plants and we have a few bags of pea gravel in the bottom with a fountain that runs. It was really hard to keep algae out for a while but I started dropping a tiny bit of pool algaecide in it during the hottest months. The brand that I use bc it’s milder is called shimmer and shine. And I put probably a teaspoon.

get a pump to filter the water and clean it regularly. No shortage of algaecides and clarifiers at retail stores. pool skimmer will help to get big shite out of the kettle. We have one surviving koi fish in our kettle. I killed the other two when I changed the water and didn't acclimate the fish to the new water. The surviving fish lived through the snow and freezing temps this past winter. I wouldn't worry about trying to keep the pot spotless. First its too daunting a task, second it seems to do just fine with minimal effort.

We have a pretty good deal worked out. She’s tells me what she wants, I do it and get to continue to make the sex with her.

Not if you want plants and fish, but yeah copper will kill all algae.

We had one years ago and I would throw chlorine tabs in it. Seemed to work.

If you can get electricity to it, buy a submersible pond filter, throw some lilipads in there and 2-3 common goldfish. The goldfish will keep bugs and algae in check and pump will keep water clear.

I have power to it already. Have a fountain I just rigged up.

I hear ya man, and that’s a great deal you have worked out there.
I have a really good friend whose wife just makes a passing comment about what she wants and that’s his que to get it taken care of. After it’s done, she’s quick to tell everyone what “we” did, and the whole while she sits on her arse and does nothing but bitch.
I do not think sex is apart of his package!

I found that the best thing to keep my small water garden water was to find some fresh glaring water Lilly’s in the swamp anc put them in the water. They bloom nice and really filter the water. You just have to through a few out when they get to be too many.
