The Catholic Church has vowed to excommunicate any priest who follows a new Washington state law requiring clergy to report information about child abuse to law enforcement — even if given in the privacy of the confession booth.

Which people?
Priests have never been able to reveal what they're told in the confessional.

Well they took an oath so that would make sense.
That would hold weight if the Catholic church didn't have a very long history of protecting child abusers

Louisiana had an interesting case 15 or so years back or so where the court ordered a priest to reveal something related to a sex abuse case that was told in confession--basically a choice between excommunication or a contempt charge.
I think it was overruled before the priest had to make the choice though.

Isn't this law referring to priests that learn of child abuse during someone's confession? The headline makes it seem like it would excommunicate a priest for exposing another priest's crime of abusing kids.

Do they also take an oath not to diddle little kids? Or is does that oath have some wiggle room?

I doubt that's explicitly stated in the oath.

They are actually bound to reveal what is told to them in the vonfessional if it is going to lead to future harm. I.e. you could confess a murder and not get told on but confessing plans to murder is allowable to admit to authorities.

Yup, old news but yet they will run with it today!!!!!!
Hey, conclave, perfect time to run up all the numbers on bad stuff that you can manipulate.

I bet they wouldn’t be making Muslims tattle tale. Obviously not supporting abusers but we do have freedom of religion. If Catholics believe a priest should be a safe place to confess anything then so be it. Priest aren’t undercover cops, they don’t need to report shite.

Protecting children > "oath"
That's what Jesus said...

Ah so there is wiggle room

I don't think that is the case. The seal is inviolable under Canon Law, under any circumstance.
Perhaps the priest could alert the authorities that someone or something was in danger, but they can in no way tie it back to the person who gave that information in confession. Even then, they probably get excommunicated as it wouldn't be difficult to find the person after that.

The only reason the Catholic church gets called out more than the Branch Off Christian Cults is because;
A. It matters
B. We are unified and yall are not.
Christian Cult leaders have literal plantations in this country and people only want to talk about the Catholics. Its absolutely incredible. These are the same religions that allow Matt and Steve to change to Mary and Eve.

Headline is misleading.
It's only if they report something heard during confession and the same would hold true for any other crimes they hear during confession.

If I was a priest I would be rouge.
I wouldnt go to the police but I sure as hell am telling all the undesirables around town about the pedophile that lives in the town and let them do with that information as they wish.
