FYI - Ben's Creek WMA was the first in that parish until the timber company took it back. Ben’s Creek Wildlife Management area has been a part of the state WMA system since 1987, but negotiations to renew the lease have broken down. That means the Washington Parish property will no longer be accessible to the public as of June 30, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced.

BIG NEWS: Louisiana Gains a New Wildlife Management Area!
In partnership with Trust for Public Land, we’re proud to announce the department has acquired property for the establishment of the Bogue Chitto Wildlife Management Area—LDWF’s 53rd WMA and the first ever in Washington Parish
This 1,642 acre property features 6.5 miles of Bogue Chitto riverfront, bottomland forests, scenic hills, and excellent habitat for deer, turkey, squirrel, and more. Whether you’re into hunting, fishing, paddling, wildlife viewing, or photography, Bogue Chitto WMA is set to become your new favorite spot when it opens July 1st, 2025.
The WMA was made possible in part by the ,Louisiana Outdoors Forever Fund created to support outdoor conservation across the state.
LDWF Secretary, Tyler Bosworth:
”We are proud to add another prime property to our WMA program while also highlighting the Louisiana Outdoors Forever program and our conservation partners. We are excited to bring a new WMA to an area lacking in public opportunity for hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation and hope that this new WMA will inspire a love for the outdoors in the Washington Parish community.”

So basically reframing the current Bogue chitto to state park?

I see, it’s going to join that property to the south.

Great idea and resource for Washington Parish & Nortshore. However, unfortunately it will be completely overrun similar to Lake Ramsey & Big Branch due to the close proximity to Northshore baws. Will also be overrun with plenty of white boots coming up to hunt Thanksgiving/Christmas.

The State needs to implement specific WMAs for archery only, no surface drives on certain WMA (similar to Biloxi Marsh), and/or other limitations for benefit of hunters & property.

Just my 2c.

Just south of all the nice campgrounds in the state park too. Really a hidden gem of a place to camp with the kids. Guess that cats soon to be out the bag though

Somewhat agree though I think a better solution is a lottery system to reduce the hoards of people. If someone wants to use a rifle to kill their allotted deer in the given time, idgaf. Limiting the number of hunters would provide a better experience for most.

surface drives can get fked though.

As far as hunting goes? I am NOT going on a WMA in SE LA during rifle season.

I’ve seen too much.

Opening of Bow/Rifle Season are Comparable to Venice opening weekend of snapper, memorial day weekend, and Thanksgiving week when trout are in Jump.

Rest of the time it really just depends on weather.

That's my opinion, and I hunt the larger WMAs in SELA. Now, on this one (only being 1500ish acres with easy road access and the ability to be back to NOLA/Mandeville within 25-90mintues) im sure it will be packed to the gills.

Hopefully they'll stay in the State Park (less than a mile away) that has fantastic mountain biking facilities.

But nevertheless--6-8months.

Try spectating around Richard K Yancy (old Red River \ 3 Rivers) on the Thanksgiving hunt. Rifle combined with either sex = shite show of epic proportions.
