Tommy Vidrine been posting some videos on YouTube doing pretty well. He is easy to find on YouTube. He usually tells you exactly where he is fishing and what bait he is using.

There were probably 60 boats fishing Cat Island Sunday. We were anchored up on the beach relaxing but there was bait (and dolphins) everywhere

If you are willing to wade around the islands, there are big trout to be caught.

Yes. When the wind lays enough to get out, you can catch em. Water has been churned up, but still plenty trout to be caught.

We were down last weekend and caught a few really good specks. Caught some great reds too.

Such a social media influencer thing to do.

Actually very few YouTuber fisherman will do this. They are usually very vague about the area they fish but may share the bait especially if it’s a sponsor.

Where y’all launch from when heading to Cat Island? I’m in the process of building a 17’ skiff (will have similar specs to a key west 1720) and can’t wait to learn the area. Been studying google maps and watching allot of you tube vids. Is the beach at Cat worth taking the family or would it be better to trailer down to Long Beach and run to ship?

LB or Pass will be your best bet, but Pass Harbor is so much nicer. IMO, Cat is much better to fish and Ship is way nicer beach/water, just have to get away from the people at times. Pick your days and you'll be fine in that boat, just know it can get rough in a hurry in the Sound, especially crossing the ship channel.

Yeah seems like it has allot in common with the lake pelto/Terrebonne Bay Area I grew up fishing. Those areas can get a tight spaced 2-3’ slop in a hurry. Good thing is there isn’t much open water (7-10) miles to cross north south. I wouldn’t venture out to the islands in the boat I’m building if winds were called to be more than 5-10mph

Dirty water will be around for awhile with the pearl river discharge being what it’s been, especially after this system. I started fishing MS coast a couple years ago after moving from Houma. The fishery is not Cocodrie but you can get some limits. My advice is run back to LA marsh and get away from all the boats. Wind has been a bit of a problem all spring but we smoked the redfish on Sunday.

We run from the camp in Bay St Louis. Shortest route is launching at Pass Christian Harbor. It's about an 8 mile run from there.

The guys that know the island well catch a lot of nice fish

Beach on the southeast side is gorgeous. You can't go wrong with Ship or Cat. Cat is less crowded and a closer run for us so that's why we go there with the family on beach days.

Once you build your boat I can answer any questions you have about the island via email

Thanks man. I sold my worldcat and bought a Kubota when I moved to the land of the pines and I can’t wait to get back on the water. So ready to do more fishing than pond bass in the backyard.
